Two different sound cards on same PC

I have a chaintech sound card for my pc speakers, and am about to get the audiophile 192 with the rosetta 200. I was wondering if I could use the audiophile 192 along with the other sound card in the same pc. I plan on using sonar 5p.

If you use ASIO drivers it won't work.

It depends on what you're doing.

(I'll note right here that I have no experience with ASIO drivers. I've tried to install the ASIO drivers for my MOTU 828mkII several times but they never show up. The WDM drivers work fine, though. And, as far as I can tell, are the preferred drivers for Sonar, which I also use.)

You won't be able to 'yoke' your two interfaces together to use in tandem (that is, if you have two inputs on one and 8 on the other you can't combine them for 10 inputs) but, in Windows, with everything set up right, you should have no problems using them for two independent uses.

For instance, ever since I set up my first 8/8 DAW rig in '96, in addition to my primary interface (first an ADAT i/o card, later an Echo Mia, and later the MOTU) I've also had various Soundblasters in my desktop tower for Soundfont use,* testing, and everyday use. Using the two cards simultaneously has never been a problem. (Not to say that problems can't happen, mind you. Every rig is different.)

Anyhow, hope that helps.

*IOW, I used the 'Blaster for its Soundfont synthesis DSP engine.
