Arrow thinking about ditching my 003+ for liquid saffire 56?

Since upgrading tp PT9 i have been rethinking my options of interfaces. This one looks really enticing!

How well do you think this plays with Protools?

Is there anything the 003+ can do that the saffire 56 cant?

Any pro or cons when interfacing with Protools?

...FWIW im trying to step up my game with better sounding gear and this seems like it might be my weakest link right now... please and thank you slutz!

The 003 allows low latency mode and probably goes to lower buffer rates, but the liquid mix haw an onboard low latency mixer....

I sold my 003 and moved to logic awhile back and I'm using a saffire 56...one thing to look out for is the saffire doesn't like to share a firewire bus and as there's is only 1 on my imac I had a few problems when tracking 16 simultaneous audio tracks to an external drive. Other than that it's been solid so far

I also have an imac and record to an external FW drive. How did you remedy this problem?

In your opinion how much better do you think the pres are on the saffire 56, because i think the 003 pres are a little on the dull side

Is it true that you cant completely bypass the pres all the way on the ls56. I really wanted that interface but did some research and apparently there not by-passable thats why I went wit the profire2626, a lot of people say that the converters in the 2626 are right there next to the 003 or even better, it's awesome but still wonder bout the ls56

I believe you can't bypass the pres in the 003+ either so if you just keep the pres turned down you will not hear a difference from the mic pre.

Also if the pres are not that bad sounding I don't think we should worry about running our signal through the pres.

Anyone know how te convertors sound? Hopefully better than te 003+...

You should get a Rosetta 800 and lightpipe to your 003 and clock it with the Rosetta, or upgrade to the ADx series.

Thanks you allabouttone but convertors are on the wishlist as of now.

If I did get the saffire56 would ProTools even recognize the two adat inputs for 16 digital ins?

Lastly, would it be a lateral move to get the saffire56 or an upgrade?

Doesn't PT9 allow 32 i/o?

Pro Tools probably would however the imac only has 1 digital input, right? if that is the case you'll only be able to connect one of the adat outs (8 channels)

maybe you could also get a USB drive to alleviate the FW buss issue

I sold my 003r, Fireface 800, and Lucid 88192 to get a Mac Pro and a Sound Devices USBPre 2. Really loving it with Pro Tools 9. The converters are excellent.

I only needed two ins at any given time so I really didn't need all those inputs and outputs. Its all about what your needs are.

I haven't heard the Focusrite but it looks prosumer at best, maybe I'm wrong on this.

I'm gonna say your best off with any of the following:

Apogee
RME
Sound Devices
Metric halo
Lynx
There are more of course

I would be connecting the both adat in and outs into the saffire and wouldn't that then go through the FireWire into PT for recording? If PT9 does 32 tracks then it should recognize 16 channels of adat...

I have been using the Saffire 56 for almost 12 months and it's rock solid. The pres sound good, the mixer is easy to use and it matches my Acoustic 470 in look/colour!!

Hi mikey...it was a few months ago I was recording our band live and going 15 channels in with the 56 and a ada8000, I forget the exact technique I came up with on the day but I think I had to hit record without my external hd connected, get message about drive not found then plug it into the 56 and hit ok...once it started it recorded the full 2 hour show with no problem...sorry I can't remember exactly but I'm 99% that was the workaround I used...on the 003 I also found the pres a little dull especially on live drums,so far I'm happy with the 56 but I have been looking at the new ssl nucleus and wondering if it would be a major step up? I haven't worked with high end gear that much so I haven't much to compare them against!
