To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade? Cubase SX

OK, I'm still using Cubase SX 1 on OS X, it works fine, with the occasional crash or glitch here and there.

What I'm wondering is whether I should upgrade to version 3, what are some of the benefits, and will I have to pay a performance price.

I'm sure that some of the newer features will be helpful, and hopefully the few bugs I'm aware of will be fixed, but is it going to require me to add more ram (I have 1.5 gigs in my iMac G5), etc.

Anyone with experience in the Cubase upgrade path that can give me a quick rundown?

Also, I'm thinking of going to SL, as I don't use the Surround features, and it appears that you get almost everything else (but I do see some worrying limitations...)

I use Cubase SX as well and there was a change in audio quality from version 1 to version 2 when they incorporated the Nuendo engine into Cubase. It might be worth it to upgrade if you are doing audio recording rather than electronic compositions.

Thanks for that info, I'm leaning towards upgrading, just a little hesitant to spend the $$$, if it's not going to be a significant improvement.

I do all audio recording, so it sounds like it might be a worthwhile investment...

There's a ton of minor improvements over v.1

They sorted out the PDC, made it across the entire audio path. The connections dialogue now makes a lot more sense and you can use external FX and synths as plug-ins.

The infamous 'poof' feature (whereby Cubase would quit for no apparent reason) has totally disappeared as of v. 3

Ooo. loads of little things.. and yea it sounds better.

.. and you get a few new synths and effects

... and the cool new audio warp features...

... and (i discovered this today) - if you want to transpose an audio file, just do it from the project window in realtime! 1 click !

Angry Cubase SX 1.051 and macbook running OS10

I have a macbook 2gz with 2gigs of ram running on OSX. My cubase SX 1.051 freezes on startup when is starts to load VST multi track. Anyone no any fixes? I am new to MAC and just pulled it out of the box and tried to install. I was previously running SX on a PC just fine.

Only Cubase 4 is made for the intel cpu so you will have to upgrade which will be very worth it coming from SX1 which was a dog of a program.
