firewire and mlan and ext drive??? hmmm

ok i have a 1 ghz laptop and want to record 10 channels at once via firewire to an external drive. ive read that firewire is peer to peer in some instances so it would take less cpu usage than usb 2.0. right now i have a 2.0 external drive and im going to be buying a firewire device that will do 10 channels at once, i just need to know if a firewire hard drive will be better than a 2.0 hard drive, since the interface will be firewire, and how much better. can anyone give me info on this, like "i had both and x was better". also if the interface is MLAN and the hard drive is firewire is that going to make a difference? the MLAN question is a big one for me. thanks slutz.

i haven't used usb2 with my i88x, but you shouldn't have a problem with firewire drives - that's what i use.

the only thing i would NOT do is have any other firewire devices (hubs, cameras, etc) connected while recording - just your mlan device and a drive.

i know it will work. i just wonder if the a firewire drive will take up less cpu than a usb 2.0 drive when you are recording from an mlan device, because of firewires peer-to-peer capability?
