Babyface, same converters as Fireface?

I just bought a Babyface cause I need a USB converter and wanted the Fireface but (1) only need one input and (2) wanted to save money if I could.
The person at the store said it was the exact same converter as the Fireface only less features...

Just wanted to double cross this with you guys; is that true?

And I don't know if within the Fireface line there are differences in the converters so let's just say the most basic Fireface UC one.

Thanks

BF uses separate AD and DA chips, UC uses a combined AKM ADDA chip

The Fireface doesn't have the same converters as the Fireface, depending upon when any particular Fireface was made. Like any other product, the circuitry went through changes over the life of the product.

Resistance is not futile. It is voltage divided by current.

Product pages, manuals (download) and a bit of thinking are your friends!

Babyface

Dynamic range AD: 108 dB RMS unweighted, 111 dBA
THD AD: < -100 dB (< 0.001 %)
THD+N AD: < -98 dB (< 0.0012 %)
Crosstalk AD: > 110 dB

Dynamic range DA: 112 dB RMS unweighted, 115 dBA
THD DA: < -104 dB (< 0.00063%)
THD+N DA: < -100 dB (< 0.001%)
Crosstalk DA: > 110 dB

Fireface UC

Dynamic range AD: 110 dB RMS unweighted, 113 dBA
THD AD: < -100 dB (< 0.001 %)
THD+N AD: < -98 dB (< 0.0012 %)
Crosstalk AD: > 110 dB

Dynamic range DA: 110 dB RMS unweighted, 113 dBA (unmuted)
THD DA: -100 dB (0.001 %)
THD+N DA: -96 dB (0.0015 %)
Crosstalk DA: > 110 dB

Fireface UFX

AD, Line In 1-8, rear

Signal to Noise ratio (SNR): 110 dB RMS unweighted, 113 dBA
THD: < -110 dB, < 0.00032 %
THD+N: < -104 dB, < 0.00063 %
Channel separation: > 110 dB

Microphone In 9-12, front
As AD, but: Signal to Noise ratio (SNR): 112 dB RMS unweighted, 115 dBA

DA, Line Out 3-8, rear

Dynamic range (DR): 115 dB RMS unweighted, 118 dBA
THD: -104 dB, < 0.00063 %
THD+N: -100 dB, < 0.001 %
Channel separation: > 110 dB

Don't know how to interpret these numbers? Then don't care! They are all fine and you probably will have a hard time noticing the nuances. UFX is best, Babyface and UC are up for a tie with some points here and some points there. Get the interface with the I/Os and price you need.

DAC on the Babyface is better than on the UC.
The Babyface has the identical DA Chip as the Fireface UFX.
One can here a substantial difference between Babyface and FF UC (I have had both, now I only have the BF).
