| Any firewire (or usb?) audio interfaces that meet my specs? Seems every audio interface with good converters has preamps(!) on them, something I do not need or want. Seems like I could save a few bucks and get an interface that doesn't have preamps. Anyway, can anyone recommend an interface that meets my requirements: 1) Firewire (or usb if usb meets my following specs better) 2) 2 - 4 channels (2 channel is all I need) 3) High quality 24/96 conversion 4) NO PREAMPS! 5) XLR and TRS inputs, either combo types or seperate, does not matter 6) Zero latency 7) All in one unit, no extra soundcards or devices required. 8) Analog outs seperate from headphones, for hookup to monitors. Ok that's it, pretty simple eh? |

| Cool i'm looking for something similar. COming from my Motu 828mk2. I wanna take a step up. The Rosetta 200 looks cool, if you get the firewire card too. One thing i'm not quite sure on is how many ins + outs it has. I dunno if it's just two ins + outs or it just meens you can only record two tracks at a time? Otherwise i might have to go with the 800 'cos i don't wanna keep unplugging and re-routing my outboard ... maybe someone knows...? Peace |

I think it's the "high quality" conversion part. As far as I know, M-audio makes some firewire / USB interfaces without mic pres. But as to whether or not they'd be considered "high quality" converters is totally subjective and open for debate. They'd probably be considered more of a mid-level or budget converter for the most part. Other than that, I think there's a definite hole in the marketplace for something like you're looking for. I mean right now, I don't know that Lynx has any plans for a non-PCI interface. And companies like RME and Echo are focusing mostly on users who need a large number of inputs. .

| Assuming you have a laptop you're working with. If I was looking today (I bought a MOTU 828mkII a couple years ago when there wasn't much out) -- and I only needed 2 ch i/o and didn't want preamps, I think I'd certainly take a look at some of the Cardbus solutions out there. I've heard pretty good stuff about, say, the Echo Indigo. It has some clear limitations (1/8" TRS connectors!) but I've heard it sounds very good for the market point. (A couple hundred bucks, I think.) http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/Ca...goIO/index.php Anyhow, good luck on that. |

You'll get a million opinions on that one. But for the most part, they're middle of the road, depending on the year and model. .
