well, first af all, sorry for my bad english.I hope you'll understand.
I'm a guitarist and for my demos and compositions I always use many guitar samples and vst instruments like ministry of rock.(sigh)
I own Shreddage,Shreddage X,Pettinhouse Direct Guitar,Orange Tree Samples Evolution Guitar,Prominy Lpc Electric distortion and clean guitar,Prominy Sc and my last,killer purchase,Prominy V-Metal.
the prices of these softwares:
Shreddage:49 $
Shreddage X:20 $
Pettinhouse Direct Guitar:69 $
Orange Tree Samples Evolution Guitar:179 $
Prominy Lpc Electric distortion and clean guitar:60 gb (150000 samples),449 $
Prominy Sc:64 gb (more than 120000 samples),319 $
Prominy V-Metal:299 $ (special introductory price,199 $ expires on 29 december 2011)
Ministry of Rock 2:395 $

As you can see, also in this case,East West can be recognized between other companies for selling its products at the higher market prices. It would not be so serious if the software they're selling would work without any problem on every platform etc,but I don't believe in miracles.Avoid to speak about the quality of the guitars in Mor2,which in comparison to the other products mentioned before really suck,I ask myself why i only experience continuos problems with East West libraries, and why every single thing I do when I try to use them is a ****ing agony.
Spending a week trying to get iLok working it's ridicolous, but the thing that make me really anger is also that all those updates they release have tons of problems hard to solve.I'm very tired to get crazy, trying, every time with your stuff,to get working something I've paid for.
Don't waste your precious time trying to give me public help,I don't wan't it cause I'm just not interested anymore in your stuff...it would be better if you'll spent it helping people who have been waiting eternally for your true support,FREE,by email.
Bye East West, learn from Akihito Okawa,Andrea Aversa,Gregjazz and many others how a product should be.

Well, this is a kind of perception, because I have not had issues with Ilok, I have never had issues with EW products and IMO it sounds pretty decent if you know how to mix it. For example IMo this sounds very good and it was made with MOR 2

Nick Phoenix- Destructo - YouTube

Nonetheless, apart from that, you have to consider the following:

-Those guitar libraries you listed (some of the are very cool), need Guitar Rig or other plugin, so the price is higher than what you listed.

-On the other hand, with MOR 2 you have very cool drums and basses, which is a very important plus to consider

This could be a matter of tastes, and if you got issues with your product, it is your right to put your opinion, but I think it is fair to disagree if I am a happy customer with EW.

cheers!

Sounds freakin awesome. I'll post a link to Mustis who used to play in Dimmu Borgir..he's really into East West stuff.

Btw, Play 3 is rock solid over here with Samplitude ProX.

It all works really well. Are you asking if EastWest plans on making their own app similar to VE Pro 5? If so, I doubt it.
i hope in a native option in play, not another app Ql pianos is very cpu/hard disk sucker, I have problems to run it (2/3 mics) with others plugins like kontakt, omnisphere with 7200 rpm hd and a firewire hd for omnisphere and kontakt samples :(

Well with 3 mic positions you are using a lot of samples and your system is not very powerful.

QL Pianos sound really good with just 1 mic position, a little verb, and whatever lid adjustment you prefer.

Hi Lurker,

Didn't really want to post here but I'm getting nowhere with an order I placed during the EW NAMM 50% off promotion.

I ordered an upgrade to Symphonic Choirs (plus expansion) as it was too good to pass on but my order status has remained the same since (pending fulfilment), and after numerous emails without replies I'm getting a bit concerned.

I'm in the process of moving house and I thought I'd ordered this in plenty of time but my order is static. I'm gone next Tuesday and nothing is happening.

I'm not sure how seriously to take EW. There were problems with currency conversion etc upon placing the order (as I sent screenshots of the order page) but it got miraculously sorted, even though nobody got back to me and I re-checked and placed the order.

Are you guys still in business? I'm not sure.

yes I know... In fact I would like to know if it is planned a network feature to host samples and PLAY in another pc/mac like vienna ensamble
Thanks!

I am still wondering... Month after month after month... The dreadful sustain bug is STILL here.
How long will it take to be fixed? Anyone who will take a look at EW forums searching for "sustain" will find numerous threads, some going as long ago as a year!
I can't believe how a bug like that has been left to be there for so long. There are many bugs in PLAY , however, there are workarounds and they are not show-stoppers. This bug however is extremely affecting everything you do that involves a sustain pedal.

Jay can you please comment on that? Do you have ANY information if this is being worked on?

I am pretty much beginning to lose my faith over here. And so are quite a few fellow composers/producers that I know.

I am out of town until the 7th so I am doing this from another computer but somewhere I posted some tips from Steinberg, as this mostly seems to happen with Cubase. I simply never see this with Logic.

I doubt it. VE Pro is awfully good at this so why re-invent the wheel?

I am aware of the tips. They just don't apply.
I understand that you don't see this with Logic but same thing goes here: I simply NEVER see this with any other VSTi.
I was almost forced to buy another Piano library so I could deliver projects to my customers in time.
Jay, you have been an excellent support member in the past, I was saying this everywhere when everyone was bashing EW for their support.
I guess you can understand that this thing is unacceptable. And the fact that the update 3.0.30 CHANGED the behaviour so that notes are not held forever anymore means that they found what was wrong but they don't quite finish the job.
I would really like to hear some feedback from you on this when you get the time.

QL Piano working very well over here. However, loading times are loooong. Really hoping for a "Kontakt-like" background loading feature for PLAY.

Then again, Kontakt was pretty good at playing back EastWest samples as well...

Yes, but from what they tell me there were programming things they wanted to do that required changes in Kontakt that the N.I., people said no to, so EW felt they had to have their own player to control their destiny.

Anyway, apples and oranges IMHO.

Why play always says to me "low memory" when i have 2.3gb inactive free memory? it is very annoying. Engine is setted to low, 128 samples. How many problems and bugs with play engine... kontakt works much better... play is the ONLY audiounits that create me soo many problems, why?

Thank you Jay,

Every little helps. This is a really unfortunate situation. It's a shame that the libraries are great but are unusable right now (especially the ones that you might use the sustain pedal).
I had the same thing happening with Ministry Of Rock 2 while I was trying to hold some chord notes on a guitar using the sustain pedal. Result: Two different chords playing together at the same time.Had to use the Clean Guitar from Kontakt 5 library instead... Nasty...

Once again, not in any way trying to deny this or minimize your problem, but I simply do not see this issue using the sustain pedal with them in Logic or VE Pro.

Biut maybe I am using the sustain pedal differently. Are you also a pianist? Can you describe for me an example of how you are proceeding that brings on the problem?

Yes, I am a pianist indeed. I have found that if you are not a pianist (i.e. using the sustain pedal like a pianist does) it is not so easy to reproduce the problem. The problem is very noticeable when you re-pedal different chords, very quickly. So, if for example you have to play 3 chords in a row C-C#-D, you would play them like that:

C-Hold sustain pedal- Release the notes- Release pedal- Play C# Chord- re-press the pedal etc.

This, however happens very fast (like a real pianist would instinctively do).

What I have found out over the months that this problem is existing is that a rough way to reproduce it is:

Open Play.
Play a pedal-busy piano part (Usually first time there are no hanging notes).
Record e.g. from bar 3 to bar 20 (Most of the times still no hanging notes)
Press stop.
Delete the part you have recorded.
Record again from bar 3
This time 8/10 times there will be hanging notes.
The more you record/erase parts, the more hanging notes you get.
Switching to another VSTi makes the problem go away. I have even tried to reproduce the problem with other VSTi's by recording a part, not releasing the pedal and pressing stop. In EW forums it is suggested that this causes the problem. But trying out with other VSTi's (such as Kontakt) there is no issue even when I do that.
There is clearly a problem when Play cannot deal with fast pedal changes so it "forgets" that the pedal was released. Also, when the problem happens there is no specific pattern. So one time C2, E3 and G2 are held some other times completely different notes.

Before the 3.030 update the notes were holding forever even if you pressed stop, even if you pressed and released the sustain pedal. After 3.0.30 if you press the sustain pedal the notes are reset. But still, while you are playing realtime or recording, the notes are held between pedal changes. If you ask me, it must be a problem with PLAY not being able to identify quick pedal changes. I still don't know why this happens after you play/ record with it for a while but in my opinion the developing team was close to solving this.
My only criticism is that they should spend way more time in doing this as the problem is getting widely known. I have yet to meet a colleague working with DP or Cubase that does not have this problem. And everyone has this thing only with PLAY.

Hope this helps a bit.
On a side note I have to say that if you program your parts in Logic/Cubase, this problem is very unlikely to happen. So it is only realtime midi input that triggers it.

OK, that is very specific so thank you! I am busy for the rest of today away from my rig but I will try to reproduce this tomorrow following your steps.

OK, Ivory. I just spent 15 minutes doing exactly as you described with QL Piano's Bosendorfer with the latest version of Play 3 in both Logic and then in VE Pro and try as hard as I could, I simply cannot reproduce this.

I am not saying the issue is not real, only that I cannot reproduce it.

Thanks for your effort. I am not surprised to be honest, because this problem is only reported only from Digital Performer/Cubase users. (Although there are some cases in Soundsonline forums that said they could reproduce it in standalone-I haven't).

Still, if you could remind them of the issue it would be really good.

Just to know I open a thread on your OFFICIAL forum and no official answer about OUR problem (yes, our problem because it is a common problem as you see).

here it is: Soundsonline-Forums

Play AU has got a serious problem on mac osx to handle free and inactive ram and NO official answer about it, shame on you east west. Maybe 600 euros spent aren't too much to have support?! I have write on your facebook page and today my post is deleted, LOL

If this is the way to treat your customers dear East West that's ok, I will NEVER buy again from you and I suggest to do the same to all my friends and coworker.

Hi Jay,

Thanks for being here!

I have a 8 Core (2.8Ghz) Mac Pro with 8 Gig RAM and running Logic Pro 9. I have a ton of ver.8 Waves plug ins I use plus Altiverb 7 (all are the latest versions).

I have EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold running on Kontakt 3.5 from a SSD drive. This has been very stable for me. BUT ----- I'd like to upgrade to PLAY Symphonic Orchestra and also perhaps Hollywood Strings.

Is PLAY now stable?

Can I run my 32 bit Waves effects with PLAY?

Play is indeed very stable for most users but you really want IMHO to start weeding out your 32 bit stuff and run Logic 64 bit. The EWQLSO upgrade should be fine for you but if you are going to also get HS and run more than just a little of it you are going to need more RAM than 8 GB.

If this is the way to treat your customers dear East West that's ok, I will NEVER buy again from you and I suggest to do the same to all my friends and coworker.
Shoot me an email about this and let me see if I can get you a response

Once thing I can say as a Logic Pro 9 based composer to an absolute certainty: with the way the Mac OS deals bind the scenes with memory (move this here, now there, oops over here) I no longer take anything I see in Activity Monitor at face value.

Thanks Jay!

I am concerned about being able to run my big buck Waves plug ins with PLAY in Logic. My Waves plugs are, as I understand, still 32 bit in the latest version. Waves tells me a 64 bit version is available in the near coming months

Will I be OK - or are there user problems being reported? (waves does not recommend running a 64 bit plug at the same time)

Wow, I thought 8 Gig of RAM was a lot. The ram for these machines is expensive. How much do I need to be comfortable with HS gold?

I love East West products!

I kind of have to laugh at the extreme tech you need to run these wonderful sample libraries. It took me years just to be able to run Symphonic Orchestra well and the full version of Bosenodoffer 290 -- after finally buying a big honkin Mac Pro. I have an 8 core Mac --- but to run the wonderful Hollywood Strings:

I will need another SSD drive --- as large as I can get. Another $400 for a 240 SSD Gig drive or $800 for a 480 SSD drive. SSD's are a must for time savings.
I will also need even more Ram - Another 8Gig will run $275
