I'd have to go with the 88rs, its a great channel strip with low dsp usage. After that it's a toss up between the fatso, studer, 31102, and massive passive. I havent had a chance to use the studer or MP yet.

Demo a couple and see what works for ya!

If you need a comp get the fatso it's hands down the best digital comp I've got ...... And the massive is the best EQ I've got, but for drums and bass I like the ssl channel strip

well I'm probably going to go against what everyone here says and say the IBP.

Of course you can demo them all to make up your own mind

Both the 88rs and the SSL are great channel strips. I find the Harrison very useful. Fatso is killer.

Lots of great ones. Most of them are very good.

But the Studder, MP and p-bus comp are essential too me. Those three, a channel strip (I like the ssl) and a reverb can make a great mix setup.

IBP and The cooper are nice additions, and can be very handy.

Trident, 31102 and Harrison are great EQ units, but it's a matter of taste. I dont use Helios as much as I though I would.

I like the La3a on bass and piano, and the DBX can be good on drums. Fatso and the SSL bus comp are great alternatives to the p-bus comp, if you want more colour. P-max can make things more cruncy, and it's a nice option, but not essential to me.

The moog filter is an interesting effect. I love the drive, but not really the filter. It can make thin VSTI's sound more "real".

EMT 250 is good at being a EMT 250. If you like that sound, then it's brilliant, but it's not a end all be all reverb.

I don't really like the enhancers, and the deeser is ok, but not better than the one in cubase....

Demo everything, but not at once

Congrats on the QUAD! There are so many great UAD plug-ins to choose from. As far as what new plug-ins to get that really depends on your needs. Personally, the Studer A800 has become my favorite UAD plug-in. You'll find that when starting a new mix and placing an instance on the first track insert and the mix bus and mixing into the A800 you will not need to comp/eq as much and the cumulative affect will result in a more pleasing & cohesive sounding mix.

Cheers & have fun mixing,

Billy Buck

I have all but the Precision Hz Enhancer and the Moog filter and find all of the plug-ins useful.

Keep in mind you can demo all of the effects and if you for some reason can't finish a demo because you had to (insert excellent excuse here), you can let UA know; they're very generous about extending demos (I once demo'd one effect twice, then bought it).

Congrats, welcome to the "DSProtherhood."

They get most of the love here.... although the Neve 73 & 81 are both good too.... in fact most of the plugs are good.... i heard good things about the Dimension too.... but i never had a use for it much...

Start with Neve 88RS. It can really do a lot of things for you. I've found that I "need" less of a lot of other things now that I use it.

I don't wanna hijack this thread but in you guys opinions what is the best all in one Reverb on offer by UAD, I'm getting the satellite in about 3 weeks and I'm getting the one with the $500 voucher and I wanna spend it on getting a great reverb which will sit on my bus for most of my mixes,

Thanks,
J

If it's better than the UAD1e card, then I'm happy. Maybe I'll get another quad.

EMT and Studer. I would choose Slate VCC over SSL or Neve 88RS.

I see a lot of love for the 88rs. I've tried for over a year to love it like everyone else but it just seems good but not great to me. What am I missing? How do you all use it?
