looks soooo awesome...but why does it have to be 1600 bucks for TDM! I mean, that's not really ridiculous or anything...I just can't afford that!!

Well, to me even 800$ for native hosts is too much. Waves will never change... tutt

Demo for PC and MAC.

It's a pain in the ass to authorize those plug ins.

The SSL G EQ and G comp sounds great.

I am a bit less impressed by the E Channel.

Dammit really? cause that's what I was really looking forward to! What was lackluster about it?

I just took down my monitor setup and can't check them out (I still have headphones, but...)....

any other impressions of the E-Channel or the compressor compared to the URS?

pretty happy with it thus far.... definetly think the EQ is cool, although I don't really have any real reference, as the last time I used a 4000 was 2 years ago.

One thing though...it completely F@CKED up my waves auths!!!

For some reason my IR-1 doesn't show up now and my platinum bundle (which hasn't been working since..oh...version 4) is all showing up! What the hell did I do? I just installed the demo per their instructions and now my main verb shows up like it's not authorized!! and it's on my ILOK!

anyone?

If you purchase directly from Waves do they ship a physical box or can you download the product?

I don't see the point for shipping software if it's iLok anyway....

Waste of paper and material in my opinion. And it only delays the availability...

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is typical!!

I tried to install the demo and already got an error!

'Setup has experienced an error. Error code: -6001'

The security to get the demo feels tighter than getting into the damn Pentagon!

You have to login a thousand times somewhere on the Waves site then you request, authorise, login again, wait for an email bla bla bla try to launch a Waves iLok authorizer that isn't there...only to be presented with an error when you finally thought you got something.

I tried it. I like it! Very useful, has that crispy crunchyness that I sometimes miss.

Now gotta make up my mind weather or not I can stomach WUP.

By the way the Auth process sucks. fuuck

on the waves site it says it emulates the actual analog channel (noise and all) - if 'analog' is deselected you're supposed to get the plug without the analog artifacts - is that's good or bad? ...could do without the noise, but with no harmonic distortion it's obviously not going to sound the same.

from manual:

Quote:
5. Analogue on/off. Classic analogue processors necessarily create more noise and harmonic distortions than modern digital devices. This is, in part, what gives analogue processors their desired sound. By default, all components of the SSL 4000 Collection operate in a mode which enables emulation of the SSL analogue console. However, there may be times when you prefer to use this plug-in without these special attributes. Switching off Analogue disables analogue emulation.

*800 is fair.... For Native.

URS would run about 675.00 (when you compare the N, A and1980 COmpressor as abundle) so 800 is pretty decent, just hate WAVES as a company, but I will bite the bullet and buy these.

Will the demo work for anyone that has any Waves V5.0 plugs? The reason I ask is because I have a smaller bundle and tried to download a demo of the L3. When I did, it wouldn't work, and as long as I had the L3 installed, my other plugs which were previously installed and authorized wouldn't function either. It tried to tell me that I wasn't authorized for anything. So, I contacted Waves, and they told me that because all V5.0 plugs run on the same coding and such, you can't run a demo on the same computer that you already have installed an authorized Waves bundle on.

So to recap...what they told me is..."If you actually pay us money to have a legitimate copy of our plugs, then decide you want to try some others, you can't. You're screwed. However, if you've never given our company a dime, we'll gladly reward you by allowing you to demo whatever plugs you like." It's like they punish you because you actually use authorized plugs with them.

for thrill

thrill, do you have PT or any platform that can use these plugs? i'd really be interested in hearing how you think these things rate. alot of us don't have SSL G/E consoles to compare to.

i'm sure it was convenient for SSL to go the waves route, but man, had they just sold the plugs direct, at least i would've been alot more excited about these things... but i'm still pretty f#$% excited. now if SSL just made an AWS with dynamics and stereo channels, the combo could really rock!

BTW, anybody know if these are 32 bit floating point, double precision or what?

Man I never knew how much I missed SSL Gates. YEAH!!!!!!!!! WAVES STILL SUCKS. But this is bought SO bought

Ok a few opbservations...

1 - They sound GREAT.
2 - The analog button is a must. You want it engaged on all of them Otherwise it gets a little sterile sounding.
3 - The Mix Buss Compressor sounds great. Really brings a mix together. My Drums sound so much better.

These units along with the URS N, A and UAD plug ins sound great.

An Almost complete package.

Ok I admit to being a Waves idiot...I only own one plug of theirs, Tune. Their support was cool as lemonade with me while I struggled with getting it to run on PT7....What gives here before I buy these bitches?

I bought an APA not too long ago (not a big fan but that is another story). I hooked up with this guy Dave at Waves who is their Customer Service Manager. My install was an absolute friggin nightmare, maybe it had something to do with some previous 'trial' versions of Waves software that I , ah hem, acquired.

This guy bent over backwords including coming in on his day off and calling me at a set appointed time (TWICE) !! He went way in depth, looking at my registry and whole bunch of background $shit that most CSR's won't go near. These were hour long phone calls and sometimes longer. My problem ended up with me having to completely wipe my hardrive and reinstalling Windows.

I understand everyones grief with Waves and their WUP program - but I honestly have not experienced better customer service in this industry from anyone. To be honest I have rarely expereienced better customer service anywhere in any industry. If you ever need to call ask for Dave, he was great to work with.

Agreed. I've been using them in Nuendo 3.2 (VST) on PC, very impressive. Despite the usual knee-jerk reaction to everything Waves, they're well worth a listen.
