hard drive question 500gb vs 1tb? cache?

hey folks

i've noticed (based on a few searches on similar topics) that most people are using 500GB hard drives... do you find them significantly faster than 1TB hard drives?

i'm thinking of expanding my mac pro (currently have 2 drives) for the following

1) OS
2) samples
3) recording
4) video editing

Does cache size make a difference? I was looking at this :

3.5 Inch SATA Hard Drives with Ultra ATA Software Technology | Seagate

it seems the 32 MB cache is only available on the 1 TB model... what are your experiences of 1TB vs 500GB 16MB cache?

thanks guys!

You need to check if the 1 TB drive is just two 500 gb drives put together. If that's so, then you need to consider reliability. I use 500 gb drives almost as disposable drives. I like to mirror my drives for backup/archival purposes, and I prefer two separate 500 gb drives than a single 1 TB drive.

As far as seek time, burst, buffer etc, unless you're editing digital video (especially HD), it shouldn't really matter. Most available drives are sufficient for digital audio.
