Is Sony Acid 6 and Sony Vegas 6

Is there anything different about sony acid 6 and sony vegas 6 from the other DAW's ? I heard some people say some nice stuff about it? Is it pretty much the same as pro tools and cubase and in another color and a new paint job ?

Well, yes and no. They currently each have more limited function sets than the Cubases and Pro Tools. Vegas does not have any MIDI. Acid has limited MIDI and is not truly a multitrack (it can only record one track at a time and each recording is a seperate track).

If you don't use MIDI, then Vegas is a great recorder and editor program. It is super fast and easy to work with. But, it does not have tempo mapping and it's VST implementation is iffy.

Acid is a great composition tool, but it falls down when trying to do multi-take recording and simultaneous multitrack recording.

Neither program has good built in effects.

With all that said, due in March is a new version of Acid Pro 6 which will combine the Vegas recording and editing into Acid with much improved MIDI editing. So that really looks to be a winner for those who like the interface - and who wouldn't really?
