Strange thing happened in mp3 export/import

While preparing some pre-production stuff for a band I'm working with, I ripped their tunes thru Media Player as an mp3 at 320kbps. When I imported into Producer 4 to put the click track to it, I noticed that the wave forms were centered around -5 instead of the usual 0. Opened it up in Audacity, same thing. Any of you know what may have happened? Doesn't sound bad, lower in volume or anything. Just looks funny.

Hi Mitchell. I have had some strange things happen as well in Media Player, not a big fan of it. I am also not a fan of the mp3 codec that comes with Cubase. May I suggest using a ripper that uses the LAME codec, it is amazing sounding, the best I have found. I have never had issues with it. The one I use is in Nero, which is a great software as well. Cheers

Thank you sir. I'll check into that. Just never had it happen before and it was only on those 5 songs. Weird.

How have you been by the way? Everything is well I hope. I've been busting my hump trying to learn these 10+ songs to go into the studio and, to be honest, some of them I'm not sure if I can pull off. I've got the footspeed, in short bursts. But some of the riffs these guys are doing go on for 20-30-40 seconds, and I can't keep my damn feet going consistently that long. I start petering out after about 7-10 seconds. Not sure if any amount of practice is gonna allow me to do it at this point, so I may have to figure out something else to play, or they're gonna have to get super drummer to play it. I'm sure the guy from Dragonforce could do it, but he's not from this planet .lol.

Oh, and I've also been meaning to tell you, the toms in that one song we were discussing, what mics did you use on those? What brand of drums were they? They sound full and blend well. Also, please let me know when that CD is available as I'd like to hear the rest of it.

Cheers!

I think the toms are Gretsch, and the mics are Audix, pretty sure they are D4s. It's ironic that I didn't track them, I would have used new heads. The ones he had were rumored to be pretty old. I actually can show you the kit in the studio: YouTube - Bruce Spencer - Pocket drummer groove goes insane
Check it out, the drummer in the video and on that tune you heard is the mighty Bruce Spencer. He's not from this planet either!

Ah, but still, they sounded good. Didn't notice any dullness, but that's easy to fix w/ eq and verb on older heads. The Gretsch toms are like no other. Hard to go wrong w/ Gretsch. I have two, a Renown Maple and a Catalina Birch. Started playing them in '06 after many years w/ a monster 9 pc Ludwig Rocker kit that was too much to haul around. I've not owned another kit that I like better than these two though.

Thanks for the link. Good drummer no doubt.

Cheers!
