Changing boot drive to new HD in Windows 7

I'm not sure if this is obvious, or an easy question, as I've never tried to do this before. The hard drives in my Windows system are starting to get a little outdated. 7200 rpm, 16mb cache, 500 GB. I have one for my system drive and one for my audio. Not terrible but not exactly state of the art.

If I were to attempt to upgrade my boot drive, without having to reinstall everything, would it be as simple as copying all the contents of the hard drive to the new drive, and then change the boot drive in the BIOS?

I feel like there has to be an extra step somewhere or probably a simple copy won't be enough. Certainly someone knows. Happy thanksgiving.

Thanks!

Google "ghosting". There is a way to do what you want, but don't trust an old man's memory...
