| Every 6 months or so another "collaborate online" or "jam online" [ ] service pops up... Back in 1999 I collaborated with a young British techno kid who'd heard some of my stuff online. We simply emailed our tracks back and forth. (This was before broadband was widespread here or there; we used rather lo fi 128 kbps mp3s, which now seems a bit of a false economy. I can't remember why we didn't go with 192 kbps, at least.) So, in essence, we didn't have to pay any third parties to collaborate. I'd look at what this service can offer you above and beyond what you can do for yourself. If you think it's going to be a good place to meet collaborators -- I think you should really, really do your homework. (All this skepticism, of course, presumes that they're trying to sell their services and perhaps additional software. If it's all free, then, WTF, go for it and see.) |
