Arturia and TimewARP, have you tried and compared them? any thoughts on sound, creativity in the UI, anything else (platform issues aside)? the Arturia is about 25% more £$.... |

TimewARP's modules interact like a real 2600, and it sounds close to the real thing, so if you want a 2600, go with that. I don't like TimewARP because it is incredibly hard on the CPU resources and it uses PACE. Arturia's 2600 is interesting and can produce sounds that are similar to what you would get out of a 2600, but the modules don't interact like a real 2600, so it's not the same. It's also expensive for what it is. The best ARP emulation by far in my opinion is Gmedia's Oddity. It's so good that I sold my whiteface Mk 1 and Mk II Odysseys. And it's relatively easy on the CPU and very inexpensive. Gmedia are a great company to deal with. Go with Oddity if you want the closest thing to an ARP in software. For $99 you just can't go wrong. |

Thanks for the replies. The Oddity is great. The 1601 sequencer and extra polyphony on the Arturia are nice also though!! |

Oddity. I have some AXXE's here, and those sound very different, but the Oddity is a very nice softsynth. recommended. |

I don´t have Timewarps or an original . I do have an Arturia though and I love it. It gets used on almost every project I do now! But how close to the original it is I do not know. Karl |

There are articles on both units here: http://www.vintagesynth.com/ You can use the pulldown menu to get to the Arturia section; there's a link to the Timewarp in the article about the Arturia 2600 I plan on getting one or the other; I had some problems running the Arturia Moog Modular at first; turns out I needed to reinstall OS X. Now it never has a glitch. It's one of my favorite recording toys. |

Thanks for the link Max. The article sums up how I'm thinking.

Dear Oberheim fan! The sonicprojects team announces the remake of the Oberheim OB-X. There's a feature never seen before in any other virtual device: slight individual detune of filters, oscillators and envelopes for every voice individually - like the real device a real ob-x rev.2 itself was used for endless comparisons and tunes to copy the original behaviour - the result is extraordinary visit us at: http://www.sonicprojects.ch/ |
