Metric halo ULN-2 Pre Amps?

Ok I was thinking about getting the FMR Audio RNP to replace my Studio Projects VTB-1. However, I want to replace my Edirol UA-25 with a FW unit. I was thinking maybe the Metric Halo ULN-2 would kill two birds with one stone. I have read that the Pre-Amps in the Metric Halo unit has great Pre-Amps. Is this true? Are they better than the FMR Audio unit?

I've been using a ULN-2 for several years now, excellent pre's, on the clean side-tons of gain. But the big bonus is getting top notch conversion. You won't be disappointed. Rob

So you think I can forget about the FMR Audio Real Nice Pre-Amp and just go with the built in ones? I know the AD/DA conversion is great...but how about the Pre-Amps? Are they comparible or surpass the RNP?

I haven't heard the RNP, so I can't say how they compare.....but here is a song I collaborated on with a couple of gal friends.....the opening acoustic guitar was done through the ULN-2. Throw an ear on the intro and see what ya think..... http://www.songramp.com/view.ez?sampleid=30644 click on the little speaker icon to stream. Rob

Sounds good... do you have any vocals done through the pre-amp?

I'm not much of a vocalist, but you can hear the "quality" of the pre, non-the-less, on this tune http://www.songramp.com/view.ez?sampleid=34096 Everything on it was done using the ULN-2. Don't judge the acoustic, it was DI'd do to my neighbors dog barking all day.....

Thanks for your help. What mic did you use? I think the unit sounds great.

I did a mic shoot-out with a ULN-2 recently if that helps - go here.

If you're looking to upgrade both your pre's and your A-D, and you want a 2-channel Firewire interface, the ULN-2 really is the definitive answer - there's no competition.
