Question Will this Do for Abit - PowerMac G5 Quad

Hello,

I was looking to get a relatively good priced used Mac and stumbled upon this one on craigslist:

FOR SALE ---- $350
G5 dual core - dual 2.3ghz (last generation of g5 before intel's came out)
8 GB ram
sonnet tempo esata 4 port card
dual monitor nvidia graphics card
airport bluetooth card

Now I was looking into a new Mac Pro but since this is my first Mac and I'm really just starting out with recording software I thought to save my cash for other items like a new montioring system, acoustically treating my room and maybe some signal processing gear.

Also my use for this Mac would be to start off learning about DAW recording and mixing with the goal to be able to do mastering in the future. Once I am more confident in my skills I will upgrade. I will be using Logic 8 as my main DAW and Pro Tools 8 as secondary.

Thank you for your help as I great appreciate the guidance.

Pro tools 8 is a no go, unless you want to deal with the glitches and instabilaty that came with 8.0.1. For that amount of cash though you can't really argue, it's an ok computer, i have a g5 at home and it works fine, but you can't compare it to a new mac, even the mac mini blows it out of the water. And don't use logic 8, logic 9 has better features and improved stability.

While Logic 9 will run fine on a PPC G5, it is not supported, and he won't be able to use anything past 9.0.2. You will have to look for an early version of Logic 9 on ebay or somewhere like that...
