need a controller !!!

I'm looking for a controller for my PT. The most of the time I'm mixing on my desk but I'm starting doing that in the box too for "small" projects but I HATE mixing with the mouse...

What controller would be suitable for me, knowing I don't want someting too big because I already have the desk ( a large studer ) and I need something reliable and solid...
are the small euphonix any good, and the mackie ?

I would mos def put my money on the euphonix, Mackie products are more in the budget "so-so" category. Euphonix has a great protocol as well, and recently updated their software. A little more money to spend then on a Mackie-product, but well worth it. Only thing "negative" about the Euphonix series is that they feel a little bit plastic, you could expect more for the price. But as far as quality and function, Euphonix won't dissapoint.

If i had a PT rig i'd save up for a second hand Avid/Digi controller.

What about those Digi Control 8's? Because they are from Digidesign, they should at least work.
Unlike my Faderport that refuses to work with PT in like 70% of the cases I (try to) use it. Works fine with Reaper, but not with PT.

What's your budget? I have a Tascam FW-1884. Cost me about $1200 brand new and it works great as a controller. Also has 4 midi ins and outs and if needed, it's also an audio interface. I don't use the audio interface on mine though. But it works great as a controller and i use all the midi ports. I'm sure you can find some cheap on ebay.

You are right

"Every Mackie Control Universal Pro comes equipped with nine 100mm motorized touch-sensitive faders from Alps"

Well,....I would suggest you look at a used Control 24 with upgraded power supply for no more than 3k.

I went with a used Pro Control with 2 fader packs and edit pack. These things are great for controlling plugin and protools. The lack some of the direct access buttons that the newer C24 provides but still is a great controller. I paid about $4500 for the controller+argosy desk. That should hit your 5k budget

The Smart AV Tango is also an awsome controller!!! You can add faders banks of 12 to these but it's costly!

The Euphonix are great as well and are way more modern than the Control 24 and ProControl. Plus AVID owns the company now...... You can also add faders to them as needed.

I have a Tascam 1884 as well that does a pretty kickass job controlling PT but lacks scribble strips. All in all it is a well built peice of equipment. You can add faders to these too!

Ummmmmm the Mackie Controller Universal Pros are good too and you can add faders to them as well. About 3k for 24faders.
