typically Digi doesn't put out anything big at NAMM, it's usually a rehash of AES. althought i hear new software rumors floating around, plugins maybe? we'll have to wait and see.

7.1?

I was just looking on the support/downloads page of digidesign and found this

http://www.digidesign.com/download/cs/71cs1/

Did I live in a cave last month and is pro tools already upgraded to 7.1?

if so what was new in 7.1?

7.1 was the release for the new HD PCIe systems and it's also what you have to run if you buy their new EXPANSION HD Ethernet chassis. it also works for anyone with a regualr HD or HD accel PCI system. not too many 7.0 bug fixes that will probably come in 7.1cs3 (whew).......

i am SO interested in what new hardware/interface/control surface they come out with. I am actually NOT going to go PT HD until they do. ...you guessed it...upgrade costs? no thanks.
BUT...as soon as its out. i'm at the damn door.

Ethernet Chassis? It says on the site it connects via PCI or PCIe. You got me excited for a moment there.

it does need a host PCI or PCIe card, but that card is an ethernet nic card. the chassis connects to the card through a standard cat6 cable. this chassis is a pretty amazing thing (read up on their site), this chassis has its own motherboard/processor which eliminates the need for a PCI bridge which is the bottleneck that exists in magma chassis. you can swap the chassis by simple swaping cat6 connection (which also means longer cable runs). and you can run the largest mixer on 4 dsp's instead of 6 (becuase of the processor inside).
so yes, get excited.

Digi is going to hit the analog market at Namm.

1 outboard tube compressor and 1 outboard tube EQ .... both 7.1 surround capable and switchable.

They are both fully controllable , directly from the software and you can store and recall settings with it.

Each of these 'interfaces' is capable of simulating 12 eq's or dyn's in mono, 6 in strereo and 1 in surround (5.1 or 7.1)

The entire thing can be hooked up straight to one of the core cards ... just like an interface and you can also have the option to have an extra pci or pci-e card that would serve to hook up to 3 of these. It just doesn't have any dsp on it and only allow the new stuff to interface with the system. Kinda like the I/O cards back in the PT III days.

Rumour has that they were 'co designed' by EveAnna and George.

I think they are considering 'mercenary editions' as well'

To everyone....

Really though..... what do you think the chances are that we are looking at an digi003 ?
What and how would the current interface be changed ?

Also If Digi was to release new HD/TDM hardware, what on earth would this hardware update include ?

Digidesign just announced they are including the Factory bundle for free with the Digi002, (not Digi002R) so I doubt there will be a Digi003 announced at NAMM. I would say we will see a Digi003 within the next year but not quite yet. The only HD thing I could imagine would be a new interface which could be very cool.

Actually, HD debuted at the NAMM show.

But I still wouldn't count on anything groundbreaking in the Digi world in terms of studio hardware. Maybe live, maybe more software refinements.

Really, what hardware do they need right now?

great to see the 003 to be 1R and have 16 input/outputs. focusrite liquid preamps that presets can be changed/tweeked within LE and have DSP to carry more tracks/plugs and to be less than $1k.

a man can dream... oh a man can dream....

or maybe theyll anounce that their dropping thier mbox2/002 series and just have
hd and maudio....

oh what a nightmare

Chris, you forgot to mention the digital controlled analog summing box, 32 channels with automated inserts. Co-designed by Harrison GLW.
