| computer causing weird noise/interference!! HELP! i was recording some DI'd wurlitzer yesterday and noticed a high pitched sort of noise coming through on the track - the weird thing is it seemed to be affected by the computer - like when i scrolled down a page it would stop for a minute or when i clicked something it would stop for a second. there was a definite connection. i tried different AC cables and pres etc... the only way i got rid of it was unplugging the wurli. i heard the noise on the input channel the DI was feeding even with the wurli turned off - it only went away when i physically unplugged it from the wall. so is this some sort of weird interference? i am running the computer in the same room (although i am hoping to move it out soon) - has anyone else seen this?? any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| Are you using flat-panel LCD monitors? I used to have quite a noise problem with the monitors... believe it or not, try ground-lifting the monitor and see if that helps. Sounds stupid, I know, but sometimes the monitor's the culprit. Stew |

| Lives for gear | Sometimes disabling the onboard sound helps as well. If you're running through an interface and are not using the onboard sound then disable it. Might help, might not. I know it helped me in the past. |

| Lives for gear | And yes, monitors can be a terrible culprit! |

| i am using a LCD monitor ... i record via my HD recorder with goes lightpipe into my RME card on my PC but i also have the computer's onboard sound card running to my computer for listening to cds etc... off my computer - strangely my on board sound card makes the same weird noises that i was getting off the recorded keyboard as well... hmmm. seems to be somehow transferred through the AC of my studio but correlating somehow to my computer..... does that ring any bells? |

| I had a similar problem--a high pitched noise. Turns out it was a ground loop. I was running into a laptop, and the noise would go away when I unplugged the computer and just ran it off batteries. Of course, the battery on the computer would go after awhile. I got this, and it took care of the problem. http://www.zzounds.com/item--EBTHUMX I have since been working on a desk top with a firewire audio device. The unit is sitting in a drawer until a similar problem develops. |
