G5 and Mix hardware

From the DUC

s2n:
"PCI-X only uses 3.3V.
Mix cards use both 3.3V and 5V.
I'm guessing that Mix cards won't work with PCI-X. "

Will Mix hardware work with the G5's?

I don't know whether to buy a G4 now or wait....

I don't mind waiting 2-3 months but if it's never going to work I'll just get a G4 now...

Any thoughts?

thanks

I'm in the same friggin' boat. All the techs I talk to tell me not to hold my breath. I'll probably get a kick ass G4 by the end of the month.

My first thought would be to check with Magma and ask:

A. Will Mix hardware work with PCI-X?

B. If not, will a Magma fix that by working with PCI-X while supplying correct voltage(s) to older PCI cards.

I'm betting Magma will know.

I've e-mailed Magma, thanks for the idea.

I think i'm going to just go for a G4 and get a G5 next year.

From Magma re the Mix hardware/G5/PCI(x) conundrum

"Thank you for your inquiry about Magma products. Unfortunately, we have not been able to test our products with a G5 at this time. Our engineers do not foresee any problems with the solution. "

"MIX Core, MIX Farm, and all Pro Tools|HD cards are 3.3 volt-powered PCI cards which comply with the G5 PCI specifications."
D24 cards and Mix I/O cards are not compatible.
