Digi HD1 and Quad Mac for post???

Hi there

Im planning on switching to an HD system within the next 2 months, and was wondering if anyone has done any tests with a Quad mac, and a HD1 setup?
Since Im on a tight budget, Im curious to know how much power I will get from such a system, compared to a HD2 and a non Quad mac.
I will mainly use the setup for small post jobs, sound design, and a bit of surround.
I will use my old 03D´s reverbs and comps. as much as I can, but the rest will be done inside PT!
If you see any problems here, please let me know!

Thanks alot for the help

HD1 should give you the PT basic mixer and IO and sourround routing capabilities. The RTAS support in ProTools 7.1 is very good and theres lots of good native RTAS plugs arround that the QuadG5 would easily handle (McDSP, URS, Sonalksis,SoundToys) for special sound design there's NI reaktor & absynth (might give some problems in RTAS currently) and the VST to RTAS wrapper v2 from FXpansion will help you as well for certain VST plug ins.
So the setup is very good IMO mixer and some FX handled by HD1 and most bunch handled by G5 CPU. think about getting a high end AD/DA (apogee Rosetta 800, Prism) and you are prepared for many tasks.

Check the Digi website for compatibility with the Quad and the DUC.

I think the Quad is now certified by Digi, but I believe there were some initial problems with the Quads and PT. Some users reported they had to run their machines in dual processor mode, making the Quad a bit useless, but Digi was on it and it might be solved.

I have no experience with the Quad and info is still sparse, but I think if it works without problems it will give you plenty of power.
