Korg Mde-X has moved into my top 12. Those effects work on lots of different synths.

I've downloaded it and have been experimenting a little (as clipping cleanly is always a goal of mine). The softness param seems intriguing altho I notice it can suck some life out of transients.

when you clip, you clip off the peaks of a signal. transients are peaks.
so they wil be clip'd also.
or don't try 2 clip it that hard.

I'm well aware of that. I'm just trying to figure out the usefulness of this plugin. I can already clip transients in a DAW without it. The main attraction to thus plug was that it seemed it could do it more smoothly. But the softness param seems to have more drawbacks than its worth. I was hoping the original poster might shed some light on it.

I generally find clipping transients more transparent and with more of the punch associated with them intact as opposed to using a limiter in many cases. But there is always the drawback of harshness. The goal is to find something that can clip transparently while not contributing as many unwanted harmonics.

At the moment one of the best plugs for this job has been a tube emulator for creamware. It clips very nicely.

...it lets me clip certain peices of a mix OR the 2 buss......and L2 will not pick up the soft clipping..it lets the sound go thru...that distorted amazing overdriven slightly sound...however..it WILL pick up the internal clipping..and turn it into a sucking sound of crap....this way i can sort of get the best of both worlds...get my drift?

I think I got you, will do some more experimenting. What setting are you using for the soft parameter?

Yes I am. If you're familiar with the UK label Hooj Choons I had a few EP's and remixes on there as well as being on quite a few GU mix cds etc...

I'm good friends with Noel Sanger who's done some work with Markus. Will deffinatly be on the lookout for your release, what label is it under? And speaking of Moor he remixed a track of mine back when he got his start for Hooj as well.

Interesting how plugins change throughout the years. At least peoples list. If you would have ask me this a year ago, I would have a whole different list but, now I'm loving ITB mixing much more than ever and have gotten an array of plugins that help me shape my mixes.
So, as of now, this is what I use.....

1 EQ's
Massenberg- My go to, best EQ for shaping and finding out what's wrong with a Vocal/Instrument.
Digi EQ For HPF/LPF- Great for that.
Waves SSL G EQ- For doing crazy Eqing

2. Compressor's
I love compression because I use it to EQ or shape a sound most of the time so, here we go.
Waves SSL G-Buss- Always use on Master...Love tha sound and start off the mix with it.
CompressorBank- The best buss compressor. I use this and find my self not having to use EQ that much at all. Love CB4...WOW
Waves SSL Channel for that nice SSL compression when I need to compress something harder and/or drive it
Waves R-Vox- This is the best Gate/Comp on the planet. Love it on vox's
Last but not least....Uh Oh...You might hate me on this.....BF1176...always on vocals...Love it

3. Reverb's
TC Electronic's VSS3- Tha best bar none on everything
TC Electronic's DVR2- Great EMT 250 Reverb
Eventide Reverb- 2nd Best Reverb on everything
Revibe- Good Stable Reverb
Waves IR- On everything else

4. Delay's
Massey TD5- The best right now for me.
Digi Extra Long Delay- My go to Delay

5. Pitching
Auto Tune- For the sound. I record all my vocals through it, yes I said it, THROUGH IT!!!!
Waves Tune- Really great vocal tuner when I don't want the autotune sound

6. Limiter's
Waves L3-16- The best bar none
McDSP ML4000- Soft limiting
Sony Inflator- Brings out the best in an instrument and vocal...Love it

7. Harmonic's
Izotope Ozone- Man I love this plugin. My final stage plugin
Massey Tape Head- Great on Bass/Kick whenit needs a little more rump
Waves RBass- Great on kicks and snrs...Love this plugin

8. Modulation/EFX
Eventide Instant Phaser- Classic Flanging sound...Love this plugin. Use it 90% of the time on all types of stuff.
Eventide Factory- Get that classic H3000 sounds and efx...Love it man

9. Imaging
Izotope Ozone for the whole mix. I just put the upper freq's a little wider and it works great for that.
BX-Solo- I use this to send all my efx to. Give them a little more width.

10. Misc Stuff I grab and why...
Eventide Omnicompresser- WOW, I love this thing for that hard in yo face compression. Nothing better
Sony Transient Mod- Love this on Kicks/Snrs to give it that extra bite to come through the mix

I really hope this helps anyone looking for a certain plugin. I always like these types of thread as I'm always looking for a certain plugin to do certain things that I don't have.

If I had to trim it all down to a dozen, I think I'd wind up with these:

UAD Cambridge
UAD Neve 1073
UAD Pultec
Waves SSL E-Channel
UAD Neve 33609
UAD LA-3A
UAD Fairchild
GVST GClip
digitalfishphones spitfish
GVST GSnap
ReaDelay
UAD Plate 140

That seems like a wide enough variety, my favorites in a lot of categories. Actually the delay's not my favorite, I have yet to run into one delay plugin that does what I want.

Hm. Let's see. Pretty easy for me:

UAD Fairchild,
UAD LA2A
UAD 140 PLate
UAD 1073 EQ
Metric Halo Channel Strip
Metric Halo MIOStrip (2882+DSP)
UAD Precision Limiter
MW Delay
Hydratone

That's pretty much it, as my stable plug-ins. I use other things from time to time, but those would all be the exceptions, rather than the rule.

I'm a simple jazz guy. I keep the music complicated and the mix simple!

Well, considering all the incredible issues I have had with my latest computer I would like to summerize it all with one particular plugin:

I like to bring projects home and mix on the Macbook, but since the Mac in the studio is PPC the Waves plugins reset to default settings when I bring the project back again. Think I'll stick to the Logic plugins from now..

Pro Tools L.E m.p.t 7.3

1) Metric Halo labs channel strip. i ****in love it on drums, and well; most things
2) Sonnox Eq. just great
3) Smack. awesome compressor
4) Tl Space, especially the 'dr evils hall' pre set.
5) Dverb. - some reverbs give you an illusion of space and and depth. D verb just sound like reverb. i love it on drums
6) Massey Tapehead. - Love it on snare, bass and the drum bus.
7) Massey L2007 - it gives a good ammount of level without destroying your mix too much
8) Sansamp - love it on bass and dirty vocals
9) Cosmonaut voice - instant telephone voice effect. although you have to edit out the 'khhhhhh' or 'beep'
10) digidelay - it works

Well to be honest thats pretty much al the plug ins i use. I've got many more; but these are the ones i actually use, and get excited about.

I also love the UAD's but L.e and pdc = nightmare
