MAC RAM

I know this may be a stupid question but here it goes anyway: I'm using a DIGI 002r with a Dual G4 1.25 MAC. I have one RAM slot left(I think a 512MB slot). My Question is will one more RAM card give me much more mix power? As Far as plugins Go? My system is pooping out to quickly on me during mixing and I'm pretty much just sticking to the Digirack stuff for plugs. Any other tips on getting the most mixing power out of this system with out buying a new computer or HD. Mucho Gracias in advance

Yep. Your using a host based system, so the faster your computer/more ram, the more you can do with it. LE does have the limited track count though, you can't get around that.

I do think with another ram stick you could do a bit more. I'd say go for it.

How much ram do you have in there now? Another thing to consider is swapping some of your other sticks out for bigger ram quantities, like switching the 512's for 1GB's.

I also think it's possible to upgrade the processor in that thing. Might look into that too.

There may only be one Ram slot left, but that dos not tell us how much ram you have right now. Go to your Apple menu and select "about this mac". That will tell you how much ram you have installed.
If it is anything under a gig, you need more now!!!! 1.5 gigs should be fine for most work. If you already have like 2 gigs installed, your computer probably is not choking due to lack of ram.
Also, if you open your Terminal in OSX (Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and type "top", press return, you will see a list of what aps are using memory wise. At the very top is what looks like a paragraph of text above the list. At the bottom of the "paragraph" you should see a number for "pageouts". 0 is a goood number to see there, but a small number is OK too. Just to the left of "pageouts" you will see "pageins". If you pageout number is approaching lets say half of your pageins number, you need the ram or to quit all other applications when running you music software. If the out number is almost equal to or greater than the "in" number, you need serious help. Like tons more ram nd maybe its time for a new computer. ;)

I believe my capacity is 1.5 gigs of ram. And I have a 512 slot left . I'm off to Fry's today to buy another stck of RAM and we'll see if it has any effect on the poopiness of my system.

I have 3GB in my G5, and am thinking of bumping up to 4GB (max for me) because I use a lot of virtual instruments, and some of them are hogs (Scarbee for instance)
