Unhappy WTF Pro Tools audio disc?

So I'll admit I'm not a pro tools (or mac for that matter) expert. However, one of the studios where I work has a Digi002R/G5 rig that I have to use. Not a problem, usually. I have a Maxtor and a Glyph hard firewire hard drive to record on to. They are formatted HFS+ and have never really given a problem.

Last night, I went into the control room to record a concert as I usually do and this time, Pro-F'in Tools wouldn't let me record to any of the discs that I usually use. I couldn't set up a project on it because it wasn't a valid audio volume. When I tried to open any of the sesisons that were on these discs, PT wouldn't let me. I had to get it to copy over the files to a valid volume.

Now.... Why would these discs work one day and not not the next. I didn't do anything to mess with them. Just turned the computer off at the end of one day and on the next.

I tell ya, this makes me appreciate my Sequoia rigs all that much more.

Open the Workspace Browser within PT to validate the drive.

This happened to me for the first time after upgrading to PT7.

See you waited too long.

I'll be a married man again once my wife arrives on Wednesday. I've spent the last couple weeks living as a bachelor. Well, Ok it's not that exciting. More like a gay bachelor. Spent most of the time unpacking and set-up. Feng shui has proven problematic here for some reason.

Seriously though...

Give a call when you are free next week.

After a bit of time off at this place that I work, I was back in the studio there again tonight. What do you know, same problem again. The drive has been reformatted and still isn't happy. I did the trick mentioned here- told Digi to relog the drive, etc... Still no dice.

I'm back on Monday for another show... Any other ideas?

Still giving me the "Drive isn't an audio volume" error.

HI Ben,

in the workspace window you'll see each drive listed and then a V & A column, under there each drive is designated R, P, or T. THe A is Audio, V is Video, P means playback, T transfer, R record. Make sure your drive says R in the A column and you;ll be set.

Is this a PT7 thing? I haven't seen it on 6.9 (or any older versions of Pro Tools).

I only encountered it the first time I fired up ProTools 7.

Didn't see that... I'll look again, but we're running 6.9 (LE 002R) at this location.

This feature has been there since PT6. It comes in quite handy when using round robin allocation and you don't want to record to specific drives (system drive for instance). Workspace is also where you can unmount a drive without quiting PT.
