PT 7 Instrument Tracks & Midi

Could someone explain the way Instrument tracks are meant to be used for Midi instruments in PT7. The docs are pretty vague.

Do I still need to have one track for the Midi and one for the audio?

It seems I can record the Midi data on the instrument track with a plug installed so it plays to the main bus or wherever, but to edit it I need to print the audio to a separate audio track. So I guess that 2 tracks is is better than the previous 3 required, but still kinda humbug.

You are correct. It's one track that acts as a midi track and aux track combined. It is also how you use plugins like guitar rig now. While the printing thing (booo on no freezing) is a pain, I think you'll find the new realtime midi editing functions to be pretty awesome, as well as the saved screen realestate. I much prefer having the instrument tracks to not having them!!
