Thread Starter | Wireless options for Dual 1.25 Powermac G4?
Went to an apple store, they handed me an Airport Extreme card. Drove home, installed it. It wouldn't recognize the card. Called tech support, they told me that it's not compatible with the Extreme card. It's only compatible with the original card. Took it back to the apple store, got a refund, but they do not carry the original cards anymore. Neither does apple.com or most sites. My options are buy a used one from ebay (I don't trust ebay at all), or find a third party wireless card that will work and hope it doesn't crash my system (if there is one). Apple has been really pissing me off lately. No PCI cards on the new G5s. Now they've stopped selling the old Dual 2.7s w/pci, they're most likely discontinuing firewire, now this. I guess the lesson is to buy everything need for your system, accessories, etc the day you buy the unit, because a year later, you won't be able to find anything for it at all. This just seems like really bad practice to me. I have no faith in any of their new products coming out because you can't rely on that technology being supported a year or two down the road. Oh well, they're selling a lot of stuff now, so I'm sure they don't care, but in a few years, I think that this will catch up to them. |

Call expercom.com - they are a service center and had some fairly recently. You could also try finding someone with an aging iBook laptop who's willing to retire the computer and sell you their card. Best...H |

Don't use the original Airport Card. It will be overpriced and very slow. It is a .b instead of a .g. I found the Aria Extreme pci card to work in my Dual 867 MDD G4. It is recognised as an airport card by OSX. Was easy to install. http://www.sonnettech.com/product/aria_pci.html |
