I love Flux' stuff, I use their compressors all the time.

But...

Why do their interfaces have to be so terribly dark? Tiny, dark writing on black backgrounds. It is as if the GUI designers try really hard to make the interfaces as user-unfriendly as possible.

Honestly. How can anybody at Flux evaluate such designs and say: "Yeah, that looks about right. We'll run with that"?

Plugs sound really cool, but in trying the demos I also found what seemed like more than 50% of controls did not work. I was mostly stuck with trying out presets on the verb. I am running Windows 7 64bit with cubase 5.5 32bit for the test. i7 920, asus p6t deluxe v2 MB, and 6gb or ram.

boy i wish the flux line worked as 64 bit vst plugins.

Tui: try the little sun/moon selector under "FLUX" on the IRCAM demos.

The light version is a little too light, IMO, but a step in the right direction.

Haven't tried the IRCAM yet. I'm thinking more of what I've got already, such as the Pure Compressor. I literally have to squint and move right up to the screen to find the controls so that I can see what I'm doing. Relative to the ridiculously oversized gain controls to the left of the GUI, the writing is way too small. The gain controls themselves I can hardly see at all on my otherwise very sharp LG LCD screens.

This Darth Vader look is so late 80s. I wished it would just go away. (Same with Kontakt and several others. By way of comparison, the Lexicon PCM bundle is really great: Nice, clearly visible sliders and a generally clean, uncluttered look).

Tui: I know what you mean. Between the tiny typefaces, the bright white and oranges, and the dull grays... all over dark backgrounds, the Flux plug-ins are very challenging for my eyes.

The four comp/ex Pures seem to be the worst. Others have a lighter gray, but overall there seems to be too much contrast. The IRCAM plug-ins are a little better for me, with more cool blues, but it's still hard.

The IRCAM "sun button" seems to mainly lighten some on the backgrounds to varying degrees. The gray type is the hardest for me to read on any background, even white.

Not sure what that means, but considering your contribution to this thread equals to about zero, despite your impressive 650 post count, I'm not sure you have the upper hand.

Hmm ... how long is the demo time, ten days? I wonder whether I should spare them for a version in which the biggest issues are solved in order to make it a substantial tryout.

Sounds like unlimited demo time, very nice Flux!

PS: I also got all the problems digidandy mentioned...

After the hype they tried to create, tbi, I wasn't impressed at all.
Ofc I can't use them to their full potential yet as plugins like these have a certain learning curve, but I just don't see me using them anywhere.
The room localization/acoustics do sound real but how much will it improve our mixes? Do they really bring new things to our sound? Oh well..

Btw, gratz for the unlimited demo!
I still don't like the flux guis.

If you work with post production, or any other multichannel/surround environment (such as video games audio production... theater/opera or other installation environments), which the SPAT (localisation) is mainly aimed at, you will most probably have quite some use of SPAT, is it's pretty much the only one out there doing what it does, and the features, and sound quality.......

For the VERB, yeah, its yet another verb, with the little difference that it's a fully surround capable verb (up to 7.1 and 8.0 configs), and tbh, it sounds AMAZING!

Together with the VERB, the three plug-ins TRAX suite is most probably quite a bit more useful for the lionpart of the music production people, even if the post/videogame guys are gonna have GREAT use of it...

This is reflected in the products offered of these plug-ins:

SPAT+VERB (Yes, on top of the three built in verb engines in SPAT, it includes the VERB plug-in licence too)
VERB (Alone, no SPAT)
TRAX (Three plugins suite)

Or all five of them in a bundle.

Cheers,
/Felix

Just tried the iLok demo (10 days) of Ircam Tools, and everything is working just fine.

In other words: The non-iLok demo files must be faulty.

Perhaps this should be stated on the Flux download home page? Because the demo files doesn't give the right impression about this product ...

Apparently there's some parameters disabled on the demo, for some reason this is not mentioned in the release notes, but it will be updated as soon as possible.

Good to hear that you enjoyed the ilok demo version at least!!

I guess that means you are updating the release notes, not the non-iLok demo, right?

I can report that the VERB demo is well received here. Sound is deep and wide and so far, endorsed.

Can I purchase VERB and run it on more than one computer? --or do I need to purchase 2 VERBS?

with thanks,
Plush

One licence only, so if you need it on 2 computers, you need two of them.

Send me a PM if you want more information.

Do you mean Flux is updating the release notes, or the non-iLok demo? TIA

No problems here at all in Cubase 5.5 on Mac. The reverb sounds really great so far - I am going to get the ilok demo version so I can tweak around, but initial impressions are that it is pretty awesome.

I got no idea, those goes right into the devs project management system, I am the marcom guy, so I don't know, but if you want to push it a little, send an email to support, with the issue number, or even send a reply on the email sent to you when you posted the support form.

Thanks!
