Question Recommendations for someone looking to buy a new P.C. for Audio Production!

Hey guys!

I'd just like your 2 cents on what you'd get if you could get a new desktop computer, with say, a FAIRLY damn decent budget! Please keep in mind that this would mainly be used for music production, but that I'd still be jamming a PC game on it here and there.

So far, I've decided on an Intel I7 950 as my CPU. I'd like to know what you guys would recommend in terms of Motherboards, CPUs, RAM, and maybe a decent audio interface/sound card (not too concerned about the ammount of ins & outs; mainly looking for decent latency, good pre-amps and good converters - as portable as possible as well; I'm happy with a small interface with say 2 ins and 2 outs, more or less - won't be doing massive recordings on it). Lemme know what you think!

And if any of you music techies are into gaming as well, maybe give me some recommendations on which gfx cards you'd get if you don't mind.

Thanks,

H.

we really need to make this lame all too often seen comment bannable.

the sad fact is there's nothing and i mean nothing hardware wise except the added rom area for the efi in a mac pro that you can't get elsewhere.

if you want something that will be a good choice for a i7 9 series then look at the gigabyte x58 series motherboards and pick the one with the specs you'd like. asus is good too as is the msi upper end models. basically just look through the options from those three vendors in x58 chipset motherboards and you should be okay in picking any one of them.

get a good power supply while your at it.
thermaltake toughpower series
corsair
silverstone
cooler master

those are fairly decent brands as long as you stick to 650 watt and above you should be fine.

also make sure to buy ram that's on the motherboard vendor's approved list for the board you decide to get.

Smile Considering Mac!

It's not like I didn't consider Mac. I wouldn't mind a mac, but I'd like to get a Macbook Pro at some stage and rather have a PC as my main DAW workstation for now. Why? Because I do things other things apart from music production, and when it comes to that, PCs still take the cake. If you're only bent on doing work of the 'multimedia' type, and strictly for that, then Mac has its advantages. I'd get a dedicated Mac when I have the money one day. For now, a PC is still WAY more flexible in terms of the 'variety' of things I can do with it, and of course the ammount of support and backing it has.

Anyways, thanks for all the replies so far guys. If you've got anything else to add, please don't be shy!

H.
