PTs on a laptop

anyone? i'm looking to set myself up at home, and can't decide between a sexy ti-book @ 1ghz or a desktop g4 @ 2.8ghz for about the same price (actually the g4 would be cheaper - and who knows what will happen to prices when the g5s finally come out).

there are LOTS of advantages to the ti-book, so can anyone report on running PT (probably will be LE) on a single 1ghz processor? the few demos i've seen look laggy even on dual processors, so i'm a little worried about trying to do real editing or basic mixing with that one little processor.

any real-world experience or links to other threads i may have missed MUCH appreciated. donations to the fund also accepted.

A couple years ago I loaded a Mix plus into a Magma 2 slot chassis and carried off to the Bahamas w/ a band and a 500mhtz G3 Powerbook. The system was flawless. We were limited to 24 tracks though.

Because PT wasn't relying on the Mac for much it felt just the like a big rig. The PCI buss was the log jam for track count. Also we were using SCSI drives off the Magma too.

I picked up the Mbox to run LE on the Powerbook. I can run simple mixes and do edits but I transfer everything back to the Mix for serious work.

At home we have a 001 on an old G4, (450 I think) It's a bit clunky doesn't get used much.

I love the laptop thing for me, a bit more flexible for small projects. I print my mixes to Peak which is in the laptop, also Reason and Digital Performer.

So for full PT joy get a Mix system of some sort. Get enough Farms for processing!
If you go for LE get the fastest cpu you can.
