Didn't alot of broadcast studio's use LA2A's LA3A's? I know that definitely contributed to the sound of "radio compression".

I've seen plenty of 1176s in broadcast rooms. Both Bombfactory and UAD have plugin versions of this.

URS rock!!

downloaded the URS comp demos and they are awesome ... I've been steering away from virtual compression except for L3 and Master X maybe MCDSP , but these URS plugs on the bus and drums!!! can't say enough finally.... I'll be buying these... check em out.

Not one but two

First off - the SoundSolution Winamp plug which is modelled on the Optimod 8400 FM processor and considering its free, its f*cking fantasic.

Download the installer from here - then load preset 13..

Second option is from some crazy guy who has spent his life tweaking chains of DX plugs (Waves and DB-Audio) to sound like an Optimod processor. Check the Audioclips page for examples.. Hes done a fine job.

Enjoy

hi,

if the reason you want this kind of compressor is becasue you are trying to predict what your mix will sound like on the radio, you may want to take a look at this:

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY MIX ON THE RADIO

Its not a plug but FYI

One of the most popular compressors which was designed for radio broadcasting is Optimod. If you do a search Im sure you wil discover the differences between a unit that is made for radio and compressors for studio work.

But Im also just wondering why you would be wanting your project to sound like it was being played on the FM band?

LAU - ooh yeah.. Sound awful.

The Soundsolution plugin was mainly designed for shoutcast radio but the author reckons its in use in a couple of commercial FM stations.

I have used soundsolution when pitching demos to radio networks to give them a better idea of what my work sounds like 'live'. Radio execs are never the brightest of lights and have even less imagination when listing to unprocessed sound.
