Concerned with the sound...

here an review of decapitator... the plugin is very good: review and plots
- I like working with tools that look good too.

And when it comes to Soundtoys, I know I don't need to worry about this plugins sonic qualities..

We cannot discuss the sound yet so we're discussing the visuals at the moment.

Give it a few days - someone will complain about the sound of this yet-to-exist plugin.

I'll predict about 8 Months until its released.

I think these threads should be thrown from the new product alert forum.

As its very early stages and were only talking about the GUI at the moment as nobody has ever heard the plugin its probably the best time now to ask for a 64 bit version on release so us logic 64 bit users can admire the GUI all the time rather than the 32bit bridge making it disappear

Pretty pleeez........

Exclamation Vertical draft

Alright guys, as it seems that the majority prefer the vertical GUI, how about that, looks more coherent IMHO.

Any word ?

I think the one on the right looks much Juicier. Also predict it will be out before XMAS because Soundtoys are good at kick'n ass.

Actually all of a sudden the one on the left is growing on me too. Definitely vertical on the GUI though.

Very interesting plugin

PS: Faceplate would look better in black. Also prefer the horizontal gui.
German Tube = Telefunken ????

left font looks cheap and nasty.

I really think that there is some useless space used at the bottom on the original draft.

And the VU meter is way to small compared to the size of the plugin.

So that is just these 2 modifications I'd like to see, as well as a color coded knob, because as I see it as a plugin being used on each track, if you have a big mix, and are tired for example, it's easier to remember which one it is with different colors.

BootEQ mkII being the perfect example !

Me, I dislike the look of that Boot EQ. But I don't have a strong feeling on this topic.

Mainly, I want this thread to die until the thing is released so I don't keep checking it OCD-style.

...so why am I posting!?!

*DOH!*

Soundtoys has done a good job with the GUI, just as they always do.

Just updated the font, that's it for my suggestions.

That said I was not aiming at showing my "skills" as a graphic designer, because I have none.

I was just trying to show what I think would look more coherent and usable IMHO.

Because it's a draft and SoundToys asked us what we think, I just wished to share my opinion publicy because it's good to know what other users think. That's the purpose of "preliminary" version...

But appart from "oh no, it's the sound that count" mentality and the "developer always do better job, leave him doing his work", no constructives replies.

Anyway, thanks for looking.

At this point, while I appreciate all the interest in the fine points of fonts and colors, I'm pretty confident in our UI abilities and the priority right now is to get to the important stuff, which IS the sound.

Just to give you some insight into what we're doing, this is a bit of an experiment for us with a more "open" development process. I'm planning on blogging throughout the process, and hopefully getting a public beta started as soon as reasonably possible to get feedback.

I love all the guesses on what the models mean. Got to add that Dark Uzbekistan option! Right now they're purposefully vague. We won't know the exact ones until we're done, but for obvious reasons at least one or more of the 'holy trinity' are likely to show up. My 1073 is torn apart on my desk right now, and we've got plenty of options to choose from just sitting in our racks. I'll try to post some pics on the blog soon.

p.s. Thanks for all the interest. Hopefully this little 'experiment' will help us develop a better product than if we had locked ourselves up in the lab. It's at least more fun!

You're welcome Ken !

That's nice to see SoundToys doing that.

The more useful feedback you get, the better is the final product.

Thanks to you folks for raising the bar IMO. I mean really, the work is appreciated here.

Now if UAD, Soft tube and Paul Frindle... etc. raise it significantly more as well, plugs could become much much more interesting. Of course, they're all on good paths as well already.

Awesome.

I like the vertical one.

SoundToys should team up with Softube and make Soundtube Softoys...ha ha ha... I bet some mean plug-ins might come out.

Cheers.

Uh, he's referring to what it does, not what it looks like. As he said above, he's leaving the UI to his graphics department.

I'm still not sure how we could offer much advice about a product we won't hear for a long time. This is sort of a hype generator. A pre-hype generator even. I have confidence that I'll be buying this, but what are we supposed to be talking about before it's ready???

Looking forward to hearing it - sounds like a direct competitor to URS Saturation 2.5 (which I use ALL THE TIME...)

And I like competition, makes for better products all around.
