XP Odd behavior... Haven't experienced this before, and I figured I'd post here to see what anyone had to say. When I went to dinner an hour ago, all 3 of my IDE HD's were there. Left the machine on, came home and tried to open a Sonar project from Sonar's file menu, to have Sonar do nothing. Then I tried to open another one & it did nothing again. I then went to my computer to go see what was happening....and 2 drives aren't there. I had this happen a few days ago after leaving the machine on overnight, but 2 were there and only 1 vanished. At that time I rebooted 2 times in a row, and got into bios to find it wouldn't auto detect the drive. After figuring the drive puked, I rebooted one last time before I pulled it, and it showed up on it's own. Any idea? Dying bios battery maybe?...and no there's no powersave options turned on. Todd

Now they're back. They've shown up on their own after 1 reboot. Todd

| Check to make sure this is no hibernate mode turned on.. Also, check under the power options to make sure the drives dont go to sleep. just a thought...

Which drives aren't being consistently recognised (primary/secondary channel, master/slave, raid)? If you haven't changed anything before the problem began, check that the data cable is seated well in both the hard drive connectors and the mb connectors. You could also try a different cable (40-pin, 80-conductor for modern drives), though I rarely see cables fail over time.

The two that are having troubles are the slave on the primary channel, and the master on the secondary. The master on the primary channel is the system drive, and the slave on the on the secondary is the CD rom. Kind of a strange arrangement, but it's because I have to share 1 spot with a Mackie drive that HAS to be a primary to function right in the MDR. At any rate, they've been up all night long now..and there's no hibernation or power options enabled. They should stay up continually. And the cables are in good shape, I haven't seen one go down either. Dunno. Just keep watching it I guess. Todd

Sometimes my shitty ass Lacie Porshe drive disappears because it sucks monkeys for breakfast. Right click on "My Computer" Goto "Manage" "Disk Management" Some useful tools there. ![]()

Hmm. Power issue perhaps? What brand and size PSU do you have, and can you roughly figure the total draw of all components? Also, just fishing for related info.. what mainboard chipset/mfgr do you have? And the 2 drives that pull a Houdini, what are the mfgr/models?
