Weighted 61 Keyboard?

Hey guys,

I have an 88 key MIDI controller (M-Audio ) but I never play the lower two octaves so I've decided to downgrade in key numbers, and hopefully upgrade in key feel.

I know there was a thread on weighted 88 keys, but my question is about weighted 61 keys - or something around there.

Are there any out there?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Hi - the only smaller than 88 note weighted keyboard that I know of is the Fatar VMK-149 (also now the VMK-149PLUS, with built in USB).

I've not heard of a 61 key weighted controller, but it depends if 49 notes is too short..

Cheers

As someone who recently fulfilled a decade-plus long dream of picking up a hammer-weighted 88 I can well appreciate there are a number of considerations -- not the least of which is size. (Hey, this damn takes up almost as much floorspace as a freakin' piano! I could practically move my upright up from the garage... and then haul it right back down after they tar and feather me in my tightly packed neighborhood.)

But, anyhow, if you end up going with an 88 key after all, I have to say that I'm very happy with my CME UF8. For $550 I just can't imagine a better deal. I kept looking at Fatars in GC and MF catalogs but friends waved me away from them... and they were always quite a bit more, besides.

Now all I need is a really nice v. piano... cracks me up to think of spending almost as much as this very 3-D, physical heavy, big object for a handful of DVD disks. (I know, I know, I make my money by writing software, no one needs explain it to me, really. But just wait 'til they start making sample libraries in the People's Republic of China... yeah! Too bad it'll be a while after they've locked up database and web dev... [sigh] )

Thanks for the replies.

Doing more research those two companies came up a lot. However, I ended up ordering a Novation Remote 61 LE. It's supposed to have pretty nice keys.

Also, in the real keyboard world, I'm picking up a stage 73 rhodes in two days. Very excited

it doesn't they feel like rather cheap plastic imo. the keys don't have that feel i like.
which m-audio 88 key did you have? imo the cme and the keystation pro 88 are the best controllers around. the keystation pro 88 feels great. the build quality is solid to. now if you just had the regular keystation i can see switching b/c the keys feel rather cheap

Maudio Keystation Pro 88

I read somewhere that Maudio had released a second edition of the Keystation Pro 88, with improved key action. I emailed Maudio tech support and they said that this upgraded edition started shipping out around 4-5 months ago. Has anyone tried this newer version, and has the clunky action of they keys improved at all? I'm looking for an 88key controller with nice and smooth action (i.e. Roland RD300, Yamaha S90, Triton LE), and with plenty of assignable sliders/knobs (i.e. the aforementioned Maudio). Don't need onboard sounds. Although it seems that the only really nice 88key boards with decent action are ones that also have on-board sounds, thus inflating the price. Any advice/comments would be appreciated.

if you didn't like it the only way for you to go is with a CME UF8 controller.
