Arcade Fire all tape

talking to a friend up in Morin Heights and he told me that all the Arcade Fire CD was all on tape no PT , there seems to be a trend up here in Canada to do this ... do you think this is just a fashion trend among neubiles or is there any legitimate relivance to going that rout and I'm not talking practicality obviously computer based recording has the drop there .. I'm talking sonics

legitimacy and relevance are very relative terms...........

if you ask me, it simply sounds better.......how does the cd you mentioned
sound to you ?

if it makes you curious find a room that uses tape and check it out......

From the sounds of it there are computers involved, but maybe it's just a digital mastering job. Cool CD.

Just wanted to chime in. I remember reading in a previous issue of Tape Op that there were no computers/DAW's involved in their album "funeral". But that there were also quite a few different tape mediums used.

I believe most of it was done at: http://www.hotel2tango.com/

If you look on their gearlist page, you'll notice.....no DAW of any kind.

Howard runs the studio here in Montreal. There are still a lot of places with tape in the coty. I think the record is a little muddy and low-fi, but that was what they were going for.

I think the best of both worlds is tracking the drums to tape to get the nice saturation, and to keep those cymbals sounds nice, then dump the takes into a DAW for editing and the rest of the overdubs. Mixing down to a 1/2 inch helps too.
