Impulse responses

What are the Impulse responses provided by Waves like? I considered getting the IR-1 Lite or whatever it's called just to get hold of the responses. Also any commercial CD's/DVD's available that anyone can recommend as being top quality. What would people consider to be the 'best' impulses available at the moment?

I don't know if they are "the best" or not, but you can find some cool IR's at www.noisevault.com

I have most of the responses from Noisevault, some are very good, some very average.

i prob get flamed for this, but i prefer the Logic Space Designer impulses over Waves LR-1... altho Waves can sound really nice if tweaked properly..

are you looking for impulses specifically for 'verbs, or speciality ones like SSL/Neve sound-a-like impulses (a la noisevault)?

there's a lot of good stuff in the library at acoustics.net.

I could never find anything I liked at noisevault etc.

I started with Space Designer, but don't care for any of their preset ones. The other issue is that Space Designer can'tdo true stereo IRs. I ended up getting Altiverb and so far it has been great. Been pretty busy making IRs the last week.

hey jonnyclueless,

would you care to elaborate on the "can't do true stereo" of Space Designer?

thx

What I ean is having a true stero source. Like when you sample a stereo device. That is Stereo > Stereo, as opposed to mono > stereo.

When I sample a room, I have 4 audio files. One set is the response from the sweep of the left speaker, and the other pair is from the response of the right speaker.

I just got done sampling the 960, and likewise it has a stero input, so I take a pair of samples of the outputs based on just the left input, and a pair of samples based on the right input.

It's not always needed, but I feelas thought it adds a level of complexity, since you already lose the randomness of a real room or reverb.

I don't know if that makes any sense as I am not so great at explaining it.

Echo Chamber

There are some good IR's here. You'll have to navigate to the (German) page yourself. I've been plugging these into Space Designer and getting some cool results. There's an extensive post about it in the Music Computers section on the "Logic Tips" thread.

Does anyone know where to get IR's that sound like the classic 50's & 60's studios (Sun Studios Memphis, RCA Victor Nashville, Gold Star Los Angeles, Capitol Records Los Angeles, Abbey Road Studios London ....)
