Pro Tools Mono Mix

I know I should check my mixes in mono to check there's no phasing issues etc but I'm unsure how to go about this in Pro Tools. As far as I know there's no way to switch the stereo out to mono. Maybe I'm missing something though. Perhaps there's a plug-in I can stick on the master fader that'll do this for me?

I'm using an Mbox1 output to a Yamaha MG16/4 mixer. Any help would be great!

If you have the Waves stuff, put S1 Imager and set it to mono. I use it all the time.

There's no Mono button per say, but a quick workaround is hold option and click on the panning sliders on the MF. This will pop them to center (0). If you need one channel mono, pick a side and pan the other 100% to it.

Hi,

Shame that DigiDesign do not supply a simple 'mono' plugin (if you have it, Waves' S1 can do this). However you can achieve the same funtionality in Pro Tools using the following methods:

1)
  • Route all your tracks to a stereo bus (Option-click on the output selector and select the bus)
  • Create a stereo Aux and feed it with the same bus, having its output going to the MBox
  • Then you can alt-click both pan pots on the Aux channel to listen in mono (you will have to pan them back to the hard L/R to listen in stereo again).

2)
  • Create one stereo Aux and one mono Aux
  • Route all channels to both Auxes via a stereo and a mono bus (on the output selector, first Option-click and select the stereo bus, then Ctrl-Option-click and select the mono bus).
  • Have both Auxes going to the MBox output.
  • Mute either the mono or stereo Aux to monitor either in mono or stereo.

Hope this helps

Yeah I think that's just for monitoring your inputs. So you can monitor just the 1st channel (left) through both speakers/headphones.
