LXP NATIVE reverb bundle (Lexicon)

New Lexicon bundle! announced street price is 749$.

The comparision chart on Lexicon website make it look like it's the same algo's used for the PCM bundle.
knowledgebase | Lexicon Pro
Anyone have some detailed info about the algo's used for these plugins?

Note: no there's no thread on GS about this particular products, yes I did a seach before hand, thank you. No, the few supositions lost in the PCM thread dont sound like valuable info to me... o and I'm not interested by anything mysterious, thank you.

Yes there is a thread.

Quite a lot of discussion about the LXP on this thread too:

(edit, but I see you already noticed it. strange, i thought the discussion was pretty pertinent)

thanks for the link, unfortunately this thread cant be found with the name of the product "LPX Native"...I'll read on it...

and no the PCM thread is not informative at all: all I've seen is speculation about the LPX bundle, nothing really intersting, that said the thread is so long that I could have missed the interesting parts.

mmm that thead was once again full of speculation and arguments and some rather nebulous info from the team guy...whatever, I'll wait for the demo.

Thumbs up PCM bundle vs LXP bundle

I purchased the PCM bundle recently after extensive testing against the LXP bundle which I tried as a demo.

I also contacted Lexicon and asked what the technical differences between the 2 bundles were. It seemed obvious to me that there would/should be a difference in quality simply because of the prices.

The response that I received was:

"Here is the information I received about the PCM and LXP plug-ins from one of our developers:

There is a significant difference between the control of reverb color between the two. The PCM bundle has multiple filter types to control how dark or light the tail and early reflections are. The room algorithm is also significantly different in that the PCM room has a deeper early reflection section that provides a very detailed sound.

The PCMs also have variable damping in the reverb tail. This may be considered as equivalent to modifying the coefficient of air absorption of high frequencies."

I tested the 2 lexicon bundles alongside some good TC reverbs and what was apparent is that the PCM bundle is way smoother than both the TC and LXP bundles. With the PCM bundle the source and reverb sound as though they are "one" whereas with the others ( along with all other cheaper reverbs like Waves, Digi verbs etc )the source and reverb are separate and appear so.

The LXP whilst good as a Lexicon flavour at the price is not as classy as the PCM bundle.

As somebody who used to own a PCM 91 and has subsequently been searching for a plugin that can rival it I can honestly say that the PCM bundle is the only software i've found with the quality, class and smoothness of the hardware.

Highly recommended

I tried the Lexicon PCM bundle and thought mmmh, not sure.

Waited for a demo of the new Relab 480XL, boy I'm glad I waited, the 480XL is much more my thing, I bought the 480XL lite and now I'm waiting for the the full version.

I guess I just prefer Lexicon of old, nice and steamy and gooey :-)

Great year for ITB reverbs though, I also bought the UA EMT250 which is truly wonderful on snares and vocals especially when the mix is dense and/or busy.

A friend of mine got the PCM native so I was using it on one of his projects in Logic - honestly, I thought it was OK... not amazing. But then again, I'm generally not impressed with ITB reverbs.

Question LPX EQ-trick

Could you make two busses of for example lexicon LXP hall.
-Insert a Lexicon LPX hall plugin to a bus.
-Dial a sound that is closest to the "color/space" you desire.
-Make a copy of the plugin instance to a second bus (so that both plugins have same settings).
-Turn the early reflections off and leave the reverb on for the first instance of the plugin.
- and do vice versa to the second instance of the "same" reverb.

After that isert as good eq as possible to the reverb bus(ses) you desire.
and start sculpting the early reflections separately from the reverb.

A big +1 on the Relab LX480! I've already used it on release project, and it helped give the "pro" sound that has been quite elusive up to this point ITB. Cool stuff -JT

Rather, you don't like the PCM96, no? Same algorithms in the PCM bundle, according to the developers.

well that's just scary... i mean the league they are both in couldn't be any different... the lexicon is just miles better, and not being a badge snob here, very happy to even use freebies if they sound good...

put it this way, csr was a breakthrough in its day for itb reverb and low cpu use, just like waves renverb was years earlier....

but the current crop like aether, lex, relab.. just a totally different league.

BTW i wish rob papen RP verb got more mention around here... it's quite, well.. good.
