Thread Starter | G5 upgrade for PT HD?
Ok, help. I am not a computer guru like most fo you here. I am about to upgrde to HD Accel. I currently have a G4 1.25GB single processor with 1.25 RAM. Should I go ahead and upgrade to a G5 now? If so, I know there is a newer Mac that won't work with PT. That is all I run so it must comply! Any advice woudl be helpful. How much Ram, model, etc....a safe place to buy? Pretend I am a baby and I know nothing!

It depends if you also use your computer for using virtual instruments or want to use a lot of RTAS plugins (v7 of PT allows RTAS to be used on aux tracks!). If you solely use you computer for tracking and use TDM plugs, then you don't really need a G5. But if budget allows I would still buy one! ![]() And newer Mac's will work with HD soon! Digi is currently upgrading their cards to the PCI-E spec. http://www.digidesign.com/news/detai...?story_id=3828 |

Thanks for the fast reply.... All I use my Mac for is PT. I do use RTAS plugs from time to time as well though. All my "virtual" instruments run through Reason or Native Instruments as plugs too. I don't like to sound so helpless, but I really am lost here. (I am like an old man in a 30 year old body when it comes to making music....just hit record and I want it to work!) |

One more question....which OS system has the least amount of issues with 6.7 and higher? I plan on upgrading to PT 7 as soon as URS fixes their issues.

If you want to do it right now, Apple is still selling Dual 2.7's with the old slots.

As for OS version and PT version I would go for the last versions. But always keep an eye on the support pages on the Digidesign website before doing any upgrades. The issues on the URS plugs should be fixed already. http://gearslutz.com/board/showthread.php3?t=48684 | |

And don't forget stuff like Altiverb that used to kill my G4. My G5 loafs with Altiverb.
