Unhappy Cubase 5 - No sound playback at all anymore!

So Cubase 5 has been working fine for a while now.
But this morning I went to listen to a song I wrote. But it just played, with no sound.
The levels were blank. The red line appears on the mixer when I hit my MIDI keyboard, so it's recognizing it. But no sound comes out at all.
This is happening to every song I open. And I'm unable to use my MIDI at all.

I've changed no settings, everything is setup correctly. Maybe a glitch?

The only CHANGE I made, was moving the saving folder to another. But I moved the audio file with it....

Can someone help me?

I don't know why, but a lot of times the outputs and inputs get cleared from my Cubase, and I need to reset the routing in the program itself.

Check the preferences to make sure it's not the case.

Can't remember what section it is, because I don't have my work computer with me, but try that first.

Yeah I did that. It's all setup fine.
I tried to mixdown the audio, to see if it would still actually play the audio files and it does.

When the files are NOT in cubase (hence the mixdown) it'll play.
But while in cubase, absolutely nothing.

Make sure all your track outputs are assigned to the Master out

Check if Cubase switched over to a different audio driver.
This can happen if your interface wasn't recognized properly.

That and move all 3rd party vstplugins to some other folder temporarily to see if that helps.

I just had a similar issue where, after Cubase wigged out and crashed. After restarting the computer, I no longer could get audio out of Cubase. Levels were not moving, and every time I tried to change the connections, it would pause for a bit like it was having trouble connecting to the driver or something.

I had to go into the settings for my audio driver and rename the device to something else so that cubase would recognize they were different connections. If I name it back to the name it was before, my audio is still hosed.

You can check if the buffer size is set too high too.
Some audio interfaces can't handle too high buffer sizes (i had that problem setting the buffer size to 2048 samples...no sound then)

Also try to select a different audio driver (like internal-audio or something) and see if you get any sound.

Oh...another idea:
Maybe some other application is occupying the audio driver.

Back then when i was using Windows i had the problem that i couln't run Cubase + MediaPlayer at the same time when they used the same audio device (...no sound).

Never happened again when i switched to Mac

I switched the driver in Cubase to an internal one. And it plays the sound now. But the latency went from 3.0 to 166.7....
Is there a way to RENAME my firebox driver? So it'll still use the better one?

EDIT: And the internal driver has no input, so I can't record.
I'm not understanding why the Firebox ASIO Driver won't work now... It's never had issues. And I can't see any other programs using it... /sigh

If using a Firebox you might try uninstalling the FB driver then reinstalling. Only takes a minute and should fix your problem.

Cubase 5 - No Sound

Hey guyz,
I am having issue with Cubase essential 5. When I am recording I have no sound. At the moment am using M-Audio Interface(Mobile Pre USB) and SE z3300a Mic. I have changed my drivers from Asio DirectX Full Duplex Driver to my M-Audio USB ASIO. I have no clue what should I select in input and output. There is no signal coming. Please need help.

Cubase - No Sound on playback

I made an idiotic mistake and forgot to check this when my recorded track wouldn't play back to me:

1) Check your knobs! The Mix knob should be set BETWEEN Input and Computer- not all the way to Input (or else you'll only hear info coming from Tascam) and not only from Computer- or else you'll only hear playback and not from your instrument. You need BOTH. Adjust the mixer knob!

2) Watch out for the stupid speaker icon button next to the Record button on your audio track- if you hover your mouse over it it says Monitor. This disables playback for some reason.

I hope that helped.

If that all failed, check your connections- must have correct output set...

There is also a checkbox in the cubase settings (preferences) which says something like "monitoring in real time" (I have the german version....). Checking or unchecking the box means sound or no sound with my alphalink.

Also you can trash the preferences of cubase.

It happened with me also. I checked the VST Connections and saw that, at "Stereo Out" there was no driver, so I changed to "built-in audio" and it worked perfectly!
