Steinberg MR816X Routing

Hello. one last MR816X question.........

I keep reading that routing is not very good on this unit.
Can someone elaborate on this ??

I am mostly ITB but every once in a while i do want to run a Softsynth track out through external outboard and back again.

What are these routing limitations ?
And why do people say the MR Editor is crap ?

Just wanted some clarity on these questions.
Thanks

The routing you are referring to can be done through your DAW software easily, as it's pretty much nonexistent in the MR editor. I think the MR editor sucks because the meters are so damn small they are almost useless. Might as well have little red lights like on a cheap mixer. (Not really but ya know..) Beyond that it's about what you'd expect. Straightforward.

+1

That and people are comparing it to RME's TotalMix which allows you to route any input to any output in your setup, very flexible. MOST of these boxes dont compare to RME's routing ability though to be fair

That said, neither of those issues have bothered me yet on my MR.

Yes the routing on the MR816 is limited compared to RME, Metric Halo etc.

If all you need is the hardware straight into a DAW then you should be fine. But if you want actual "routing" options- its limitations may not work for you.
