Smile Favorite Serious Reasonably Priced Video Scoring Software for Drum 'n Bass programmin

Can I get people to vouch for their favorite scoring software that ACTUALLY WORKS without having to take out a second mortgage. We're talking serious music programming software - tons of filters, tons of wavform editing, plugs, soft synths, etc. IOW, I don't want the software to slow down my music making. preferably PC.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hey,

I have found a useful combination with: 1) scoring in Sibelius 2) Exporting MIDI from either/both ProTools/Reason. Plus you can export any MIDI file and import it into Sibelius. Works well here.

Many of my clients find it quite comforting to know that these options exist. They often want the option of having a score/chart readily available for use in rehearsals, etc. Makes for quicker less laborious scoring sessions. Especially when you're under the gun to get a record out and the client also has tour dates for which to prepare immediately. Just export MIDI back into Sibelus. Tweak it a little, print and you're done.

Hey, thanks so much, Stewart for the quick response - I was not referring literally to scoring/ notation, but trying to address the video aspect of the work.

I should have titled this post best music/VIDEO software. DP, Final Cut, etc., etc.

What are the favs, and why? for composers who do heavy and super quick/complex audio and midi programming for tv/film/ads, etc.

IOW, I don't want to be dicking aournd with great music aoftware and lame VIDEO playback capabilites for short exactly timed visual cues, etc.

And I'm not laying out for AVID right now.

Again, thanks

Well, Final Cut Pro has served me well and it's nowhere near the price of an Avid system. Well, worth the $1k spent. Try looking around ebay for a cheap one.

Here's one for nearly 60% off the retail price from Apple.

And here it is if purchased directly from Apple. Does not include tax or shipping.

Thanks so much - that's more what I was looking for.

In the past, I've never been happy with audio/ video editors. I mean any software that did BOTH WELL.

So what do you generally use for your fancier programming stuff and how do you integrate it with your Final Cut Pro work. I find it a bit hard to believe that you do all your super high speed programming/ sound design in PT & Reason only? Then export to cue video in FC?

Most folks I know (including myself) use some kind of more serious midi sequencer so they can have a more ergonomic programmer UI.

You do all your programming/ audio crafting in PT, and then export to FC?

Let's say you had a 30 second spot with tons of cues, like a high end BMW coupe car chase with lots of hits, and stuff. How would you deal? As you can see, I'm not quite believing PT for this gig.

Thanks again - and thanks for the links.

Hey Matt,

Thanks. So Logic has an accurate video playback to timecode, reliable synch, low latency work environment?

Anyone using Vegas for professional applications?

I'll check it out.

seems to, ive not used it for a lot of film work, but when i did it worked great and if memory serves they improved the video play side of things more in the last update 7.1.1. i used the quicktime movie playback when i used it.
ive always found logics external sync to be reliable too.

cheers

Hey thanks for the input. I've just been working in Sonar with Quick Time files, and so far........ knock on wood. I'll check out Logic on a Mac station if I have to because I have so much great Logic support around me.
