the next-generation mic modeling and placement is going to really enhance the sound and realism in amplitube 3. i've been using a similar feature in overloud's th1 and it makes all the difference to be able to combine mic responses and get the added depth of 3d placement. i'm really excited about this update in amplitube.

Maybe it was the video compression, or perhaps the audio compression, but none of those guitar sounds sounded good to me in that video, very nasal and cotton-wooly, boxy even, as if using an EQ and hi/lo-passes to get rid of the inherent fizz and pre-fit into a very specific kind of mix. Same deal with the audio samples on the website, very lacking in body for me and yet still fizzy.

I'm sure it'll be an interesting tool for recording with, but to my atrophied ears I really can't tell a difference between this and other software distortion/bitcrushing systems, including the ones I already own that came free with the DAWs (Logic, Record, Live). It just didn't sell it to me.

it's gotta be the internet compression you are not liking... none of the amplitube distortions sound lik bit-crushing to me. have you heard or tried amplitube fender? those amps sound spot on and i'm looking forward to the same out of amplitube 3.

i'd say try the demo after it's released before making any final decisions on it's sound.

to me any downside is completely negated by the ability to get a great tone without a proper room, mics, and physical volume... especially the volume part. i'm pretty sure my neighbors would not dig my 3am jams!

Have you tried Amplitude Fender?

I tested all the demo's I could before Christmas and Amplitude Fender was probably the most realistic to play through (although ReValver was very good too). It actually sounded and felt remarkably like a mic'd up combo on the other side of the glass.

If IK deliver similar quality with all the updated models in A3 then I think it'll become the new standard.
True, it's difficult to judge just by listening to clips over the internet - the acid test will be when YOU play through it with YOUR guitar.

Not long to wait now.....

Recabinet

i use GR3 and Amplitube 2 (with Fender and Bass packs thumbsup)...I recently started using "Recabinet", which are hi quality IR samples of classic amp cabinets (in Logic i load them into Space Designer).Recabinet makes Guitar Rig (in particular) MUCH more realistic and useful...Now, i run GR3 and and bypass the preset Vox cab, instead using Recabinet's vox cab...RC makes GR3's cab models sound horrendous in comparison and it's CHEAP! Improves some but not all of Amplitube's presets as well.
Recabinet - Album quality guitar tone, direct. Speaker cabinet impulse responses.
I'm also preordering Amplitube 3...

The only amp sim I've ever heard that I liked was the Ampeg SVX bass amp sim, probably because bass amps are easier to model. Guitar amp sims just don't cut it. There's no moving air connection between the speaker and the guitar, so it doesn't behave like a real amp. I'd take my $150 and buy a little tube amp instead. No bells and whistles, but it behaves like an amp should. Just my 2 cents......

i was chosen to beta test amplitube 3 and got to play it quite a bit last night. i think alot of work went into what you are mentioning. the versatility of the new amps is really impressive and i'm finding that the dynamics and range of each amp has been improved on considerably. the new vox and orange models are pure heaven. i have never played through amps sims with this much depth.

though not a "real" tube amp, this one is certainly worth your time to demo.

Any of the modern sims are fine for demos, IMHO. My personal favorite is Waves GTR Solo over Guitar Rig or Amplitube, mostly because it was free. All Waves hate aside (and I do have a special hatred for them), it sounds better than the competition overall.

I would never use something like that for production guitar tracks, though. Between my own collection and my network of recording buddies, I can lay hands on a good example of any classic amp I need, usually, unless it's something weird like a Matchless.

Amplitube 3 will have to prove to me that it can top that sound.
Yes, Thank you. VARoom is still the best by far. I have played though amplitube and the speaker sims are horrible. You need to turn those off and use impulses. So I have to wonder how picky people are about their amp sims if they don't use impulses for their speaker simulations.

The only one I can get away with is Vintage Amp Room. I do not need impulses for that one. It is 100x better then Amplitube. Let's see what version 3 has, but everyone gets easily excited over new stuff on here.

I'd love for it to be amazing..trust me..no hating from me, just trying to stay realistic.

Post IK Multimedia AmpliTube 3

Hi guys,

As AmpliTube 3 is going to be released by this weekend, I thought that a proper "release thread" was needed, with more facts than speculation.

As said earlier, I'm with a bunch of other people being part of the last minute testers, so I got a thoroughly tested and debugged release candidate version of the product.

The installation process is quick and flawless and the software is stable. It reacts smoothly and is really easy to use.

For the beginners (read people who have never used any version of AmpliTube) as well as for the "power users", it's no big deal to understand what's happening and where it's happening. That means that the GUI is laid out well, and you don't waste time trying to understand what you want to do and tweak and where is that module or that effect. It's pretty straightforward. Not to mention that the GUI design is eye-candy but not too much, so it's a joy to use and to look at.

The diversity of the offered amps and effects give you lot of choice, and surely infinite combinations of tones or musical flavours. From clean to crunch, from crunch to high gain, from "conventional" to special effects... You can do everything, really. I was impressed with the multiple combinations possible, considering that you have 2 chains of effects possible. In these "mad tweakers" scenarii, the drag and drog feature (finally) is awesome and a perfect addition to the workflow !

Soundwise, there is no surprise. Every model is top notch ! They really nailed it this time. Yes, every model sounds great, some sound awesome like the new additions. The new creative effects are wonderful, as they open a new world of creativity, and the good news is that it now operates as a real stereo software, with the 2 chains, so you can really make use of it as a creative stereo effect for synths or pianos or strings or whatever you want. Not to mention the 3 new bass amps. If you're fond of deep and creamy bass sounds, the new models will make you more than happy. I was one the the people who was whinning for new bass amps and I'm glad they did it, and nailed it (that is what is the most important). So the BIG sound is here !

A word about the new cabinet/room module : it's the best sounding that I've ever heard, just that ! The sound is faithful and the new room module with the 2 mics blending/placement is cooler than cool. It adds that ambience that lot of other amp-sim are lacking. A real improvement in that area.

Well, lot of people may be afraid that a great sounding software with multiple CPU-consuming elements like : stomps + amps + effects chained is going to overload their processor. In fact not really, it depends of your usage, or if you're using it on sessions, or as standalone and so on. In fact, there is so many quality options you can tweak than everyone will be happy in that area. You can chose to oversample everything (amps, stomps, cabs, effects), to enable high quality mode and so on. The easier way being to use the 3 modes on the top of the GUI : HIGH / MID / ECO.

So to sum up all this, AmpliTube 3 is a REAL STEP FORWARD in the world of software amp simulations.

And I'm sure a vast majority of you guys will agree with all that when you'll get your hands on it, because I'm like you, always wishing for the best, and that time, it is THE BEST.

So, respect to all the IK teams for the hard work, and most importantly for listening to the customers. Because what we were whinning for, they made it for us.

Like I said earlier, can't wait to see what's going to happen in the near and far future in the modeling area from IK. Way to go guys !

All The Best,
Jay Key

PS : And for your listening pleasure, courtesy of Dimitar Nalbantov, some video demos :

Well, the cleansounds are nice, the Leadsounds are good, but the chords are really muffy, all smeared, no definition, maybe it's the ytube sound, but really not impressed.

Well it may be the YouTube compression that makes it sound a little muffled.

Or maybe it's his settings and how he likes the sound of it. We're all different for tones and so on so maybe that's just the way it is, personal taste.

He should have used 720p HD video instead but maybe he wasn't able to record it this way.

But it's good to have a preview of it .

Here is another video he posted :

Depends on personal taste. You can get Amplitube 3 to sound that bright but frankly while that sounds sparkley at first it gets fatiguing pretty quick for me. I like to leave that area of the spectrum more open for cymbals and synth sounds. Frankly, TH-1 never quite did it for me. Not bad, but it just sounds a little tame to my ears. I like my amp modelers a little less well behaved.

If you liked what IK did for Fender than I think you'll love AT3. The new cab section sounds amazing and I got lost for a half hour just playing with mic placement. I didn't have a really long time to play with it yet (pesky work!) but so far standouts have been the new mesa emulation and the Ambass'dor pedal. Oh and the filter sequencer. I'll admit I've been a fanboi for Amplitube since the Jimi Hendrix ed. but they've really bumped up the bar in this release. I always thought that Guitar Rig had perfect functionality but lacked in sonics, and they did a fair job in v4, but they just got bitch slapped as far as I'm concerned.

Got a copy of this in for review today. I have spent some quality time with it already but I want to spend more before I say too much on it. Initial impressions are very strongly positive. I love some of the new additions; I played for at least half an hour with the new resonance filter. I remember a similar filter used as a sort of sitar simulator in the Korg AX series of multieffects units, but this one is far more advanced than those units could do, and sounds much better. My wife was really enjoying the ambient textured sound that it gave, even though the guitar tone itself was distinctly high gain (using the new Mk. III model, which is great - if you're one of the lucky fellows on the short pre-release beta and you haven't yet given it a shot, I recommend spending some time with it; like the real deal, you may not get your tone at first, but it rewards learning how to adjust it with great sounds). I could get an almost cello-like sound using the Mk. III configured for a high gain, sustained lead tone, with the Res Filter's combination of sympathetic resonance and filters.

I'll be happy to fill any clip requests that people have, though of course Dimi's already on the job hopefully I can still contribute usefully. I'm no virtuoso like him, but I will be happy to do try to do something cool with the software if you're wondering about a particular aspect of it. I plan on doing some clips of the new effects and some other things that I worry will be overlooked given the focus a lot of people have on the new and improved amp models and the new, impressive room and cabinet modeling system. There's plenty of layers of cool stuff in the software Let me know if there's anything you want to hear.

I'll be writing a review for FrugalGuitarist, very likely to be published Monday, and I always welcome input and requests from forum communities as to what things people are curious about with the software. I'll try to meet requests, and discuss notable features. Just let me know what you're curious about.

Wait until you get your grubby little paws on it! The video audio doesn't quite do it justice. I've always loved the IK models, but now they're all on par with the Fender version. Like Agree said, the new Mesa sounds fantastic, but I spent most of the night last night fooling with the old Tube Lead T model with different cabs.

There are also tons of little things like a mini-tuner display and drag and drop effects. The whole UI looks great and I'm hyper critical about that.

Having a good sound, obviously is great... And since first POD days I've heard extremely convincing mixes, albeit metal with TONS on overdubs etc.

Its the feel, the reaction to stricking the string that never convinced me.
I'd like to hear (and play on!) a bluesly-near-valve-break-up model.
