| There's not a DAW specific backup device that I'm aware of, and it wouldn't make sense anyway, it still a computer... There are lots of backup methods. The easiest way is to copy your data to another drive, whether it's internal or an external USB or firewire drive. They are getting very cheap these days. Some of them have backup software built in as well. Push a button and presto! If your on XP Pro, there's a backup utility in your system tools. You can schedule backups and all sorts of things. The 'deluxe' backup is imaging software like Symantec Ghost or the likes. It actually takes a snapshot of your HD and saves an image file to CDR/DVDR/USB, etc. If yer drive crashes you just pop the media in a drive and reload the old image. With all other methods you'll at least have to reinstall XP and all of your apps, which sometimes is a good thing to do anyway, me thinks. There's lots of choices and everyone has their favorite method, but the best policy is to actually DO one of them consistently. Rick |

| Gear Head | I'm using Acronis True Image to backup my OS partitions onto my second hard drive. It works like a charm, and it's already saved my ass a couple of times. I just put in the boot CD, restore the image and I'm back in business in about 5 minutes. It cost me about $30. I haven't tried Ghost, I hear it's the same idea, but I stay away from Symantec after having become totally frustrated with some of their other products. |
