iMac with Magma?

I was really hoping that there would be a price drop on the G5 with this new release today. So now I am trying to rethink everything.

For that last two years I have been running DP4 on my ibook G4 933 with 640 in RAM. It has been fine for tracking. I can get close to 40 tracks without a hiccup. the trouble is of course with mixing. This is all project studio level stuff. Nothing more than 40 tracks and I don't mind bouncing some, I just really wanted to get into a UAD studio pack. I'd also love to run altiverb as well.

Can I get by with an imac G5 and one of those magma 4 slot expansion setups? Or do I really need to go for the dual powercore?

i believe (and someone correct me if i am wrong) that the magma chassis work with either PCI or PCMCIA cards.

the iMac has neither. your options are USB, Firewire, and Gigabit Ethernet.

perhaps you should consider a refurb G5 dual 2ghz with PCI Slots?
if you go to www.apple.com/store and click on the red tag, scroll down and you'll find such a G5 for $1799

Buy a used 2ghz from someone or somewhere

A lot of people will be upgrading and looking to ditch their 2ghz machines
