How to set up an M/S recording in Cubase SX3

I am new to Cubase (SX3) and I want to record a solo acoustic guitar performance using an M-S pair mic setup, so I need 3 mono channels for mid, side left and side right. The phase in the right channel should be inverted. How do I set this up?

Record 2 mono tracks -- one for your middle mic, and one for your side mic. Duplicate the side mic channel. Invert the phase of one of the side mic channels, and you're done.

(To invert the phase -- there's a couple ways. One is to go into the channel editor -- that 'e' next to the track name in the upper left when the track is selected in the project window -- and do it there.)

Cheers.

exactly

then you control the stereo image by varying the levels on the mid mic and the side mic

Correct me if i'm wrong but I've always used a figure 8 pattern mic for the sides with it's capsule 90' from a cardiod's capsule. Isn't that the correct way to mic m/s?

Yes.
U could also use 2 figure of 8s. depending how much sound u want from behind the mics.

U could also experiment with hyper-cardioid for the M mic (if ur mic has the pattern).

Thanks guys, I tried it. Very interesting technique. I recorded the side channel twice from the start and inverted the phase then, but was n't sure if I needed to turn it off for playback because leaving it on would invert the inverted phase back to normal right?
