Zed R16 owners DAW software

I'm interested in finding out which software works well with the Zed R16. I'm currently using Samplitude v10 which I really love to use and have been using for the past several years. The problem is the routing does not work right with the A&H Zed R16. Global playback does not stay on channels 17&18 which the Zed uses. I have to go in and change settings every time I open up Samplitude. It's very annoying! I'm not even sure if this is a Samplitude issue or an issue with the Zed Dice drivers. I've posted for help over at the Samplitude forum and have not gotten much response. Bottom line is instead of upgrading to Samplitude 11 I'm now thinking of switching to something else even though I love working with Samplitude. So what works well with the ZED??

i guess sonar works perfectly with it. why don't you try the lite version at comes with the Zed.

all the Zed users i know are mac users running logic and live.

that really sucks if you can use samplitude.

Oh I can use it, just have to go into set-up and re-assign channels every time I close and open the program. Other than that it works perfectly, just wish there was an easy fix or I knew why it does this. Is it Samplitude or Zed drivers??

Why not do a quick reaper dowload and see if it works with that. If it does, then it's not the zed

That's a good idea, I think I will try that. The thing that amazes me is I seem to be the only one with this problem. I've been posting for awhile here and on the samplitude forum and it's as if I am the only one. I think I'll install the Sonar version that came with the zed first and try it.

Ok I've just installed Sonar LE which came with the ZED. This isn't working right either. In fact it seems worse yet. The only way I can get channels 17&18 to play back is if i dis-able all the other outputs. And I can only enable outputs 1 thru 8, 9 thru 16 will not stay enabled. When I close the program and re-open they become dis-abled as does the main 17&18 channels. I'm really getting tired of screwing with this mixer. It hasn't worked right since I bought it. First the grounding issue with the missing resistors and I thought the problem with assignments was a Samplitude issue but now it looks like another ZED problem...

I use Cubase 4 with my zed. I have setup templates to use, which makes things easier.

If you do not use templates, routing is project specific and a pain to assign.

Once you route everything, then SAVE your project, no reason it shouldn't open back up assigned correctly.

I think routing is the job of your DAW software, not the zed.

Doesn't matter if I save the project, when it opens back up the routing defaults back, this is what has me stumped since I've owned the Zed. I thought it was a bug in Samplitude but now i've tried it in samplitude v10, Samplitude v9 and now in Sonar. I never had a problem with my RME 9652 card, just when I switched to the Zed. I've re-installed DAW software and Zed drivers and still doesn't work right. At a loss right now.

I guess I should have read the manual but it turns out Sonar LE only allows 8 channels in and out so that explains why Sonar doesn't work right. Still not sure about Samplitude though. Next I'm going to download Reaper and see how it works.

I am no expert, just some random thoughts:
You are using the Asio driver for zed in host
You are not using adat connections in routing
You switched the mixer from adat connection to firewire on back
Zed is the only interface connected on its own FW port

Maybe my babblings triggered something.

Good thoughts but I've checked and eliminated them awhile ago. reaper seems to be working fine, although I'm not used to the program but the settings seem to stay and I can create templates and they open up the way they were created.
I've even tried templates in Samplitude and they don't seem to open correctly. Enabling and disabling manually are the only ways I can set the master ins and outs to 17&18. Closing samplitude with all enabled and opening back up a template it will not open correctly to the way it was created. Defaults to 1&2 automatically for some reason. I really think this is a samplitude issue.

Ah, if that is the case, check the wdm tab in zed console. Set it for 17 & 18. Now all apps, media player, etc... will by default use 17 & 18.

Yes, I've done that and wdm mode works fine. It's asio that gives me the problems.

Yep reaper works well with pretty much any hardware you use - interfaces, dsp cards, control surfaces. It's actually a great help in troubleshooting stuff that isn't working so you can narrow down the potential problem
