VERY bad news!!!

So my "band" is working on the album. Then, hurricane RITA strikes and one of our guys leaves and suddenly says he's not moving back.
The problem is he left with the computer we were using(It was his). It had about 40 + original songs on it. a lot of these songs i did 90%
or more of the work(writing and recording) on.

I don't mind so much if he keeps the songs. The problem is ....now i have to buy a new computer DAW.

I'm STRONGLY considering the following computer(I need a lot of power).
please let me know if you have any experince with them...or could possibly recommend somebody that builds reliable, quiet, and POWERFUL computers for audio.

http://www.liquiddaw.com/

LiquidDaw Raid:
Ultra-quiet liquid-cooled digital audio/video workstation.

Dual Core AMD Athlon 64 4400+ (2.2GHz, 1MB L2 per core)

nForce-chipset motherboard with Firewire, USB2.0, SerialATA, and ethernet

1GB PC3200 DDR Memory

7200rpm 160GB system drive

(2) 7200rpm 250GB audio drives in mirrored RAID array (removable)

Dual-layer DVDRW (Reads/Writes all formats)

NVidia GeForce 5200 Dual-Head AGP Video

Windows XP Home

$2500

I priced that same PC, or maybe a bit better, and it came to about $1500. Thats close to a 100% profit for them or more, I am in the wrong business.

Who's computer was it? He should at least give you a copy of all the songs. I would go there with a firewire drive and upload the songs if I had to.

That system sounds alright, but I would opt for more ram, and a matrox vid card. Actually, you should check out crypticglobe, a member here. I got some good info from him when building a system.

Get those songs back.......

You're gonna need more of this. 1 Gig (or 2 512's, as it were) isn't too expensive. I found it's necessary to not fill up the slots with a bunch of 512's as you may want 2 Gig pairs eventually. I think 2 Gig pairs of decent PC3200 are around $240.

This kind of made me laugh, because I've been in that band before.

Totally agree!! He was in the band...your friend...and belongs to ALL of you...(not your "real" question's answer but...)

Don't let him dfegad all over you like that...or say fuuck , too bad, and just up and

I'd on over there and those songs out of him

Then one with him, because you ARE still bandmates.

Point being, he should at least copy them on a drive for the rest of you.

Question thanks guys for the advice!!!

I'll definitely have to talk to him. He's about 6+ hours away. I think he'll be cool about it.

if not....I'm not gonna freak out.

I just figure I'll write better songs anyway. the more I write...the better i get at it...so it's not the end of the world if he keeps those songs.

also....the song I probably like the most is backed up on his external harddrive...which he left here.

based on your recommendations, i have put together the following from

On most of our songs we were running 40+vst fx 25+vsti and 30 tracks.
can the above system handle that? I'm wondering...do I need a dual Opteron...or will this be fast enough? Do i really NEED a dualcore processor?

We were using the RmE digi9652. I already own an EMU1212m, but the RME is probably more stable. I need stability and LOW latency.

at the most I'll probably only track 2 things at once....so I just need the DAW to be powerful and quiet(Normally we keep the computer in the room we track in).

Any suggestions are welcome.
