the ultimate Mac vs. PC slam death fest

people are complaining they can't talk about mac vs. pc anymore in this forum. that is true.

you are not allowed.

except in this thread.

I start:
I survived mixing a project using a PC. no crashes, enough CPU headroom, band is happy.

Did you ever open a mac?
It just looks like a pc.
So all discussions are useless.

i am right now, i mean right now i'm windows hell, it sucks in ways that can't be described because it is always moving. i'm sure once a machne is working it's great but to get it working with anything but brand new everything is the suchsittiestofsuckatash. i have chest pain right now and i'm not kidding.

windows is for really smart people who love wrenching on their tools more than they like using them.

Mac's are like the Waves Plug-ins....

You dangle a copper carrot in front of people, and then with your high pricing, you try to convince them that the carrot is gold.

Oooo! Zing!! +1 PC

in a classic sense:
mac = mercedes (you get it and it drives, drives and drives)
pc = VW golf (you prefer to mod it, repair, configure, replace, sometimes drive, run anti-virus apps, troubleshoot every 4-5 days)

One way to look at it is:

Get both!

mac = get a BMW/mercedes and drive it to work and to church, etc.
pc = get a VW and use it to go grocery shopping, errands, or moving gear

or...

mercedes (you get it, it drives a bit, breaks down, ends up in repair for a few weeks, works for a few more months, onboard computer goes insane... on and on)

VW golf (fast, fun and reliable)

.... this doesn't quite add up to my experience with PC / Mac, but oh well

In seriousness though, people are way too harsh on PCs sometimes. I happily run both Mac and PC setups, and atm Logic is the one bugging me with crashes.

i could imagine many users choose PC because of the many "free" (and usually quiet expensive) parts you can get

sure, to each his own. i'm not "against" pc, but for myself and my years of pc experience i simply can't work with it.
i hear about these logic problems often (same with PT all the time) i'm lucky with ableton...works so smooth since 4 years!

mac=you get a car because you want to drive
pc=it's better if you have some experience as a car mechanic

and that's the main point for me to stay far away from a pc. all i want to do is turn on my computer and run the programs i work with.

in my pc years i needed to call friends about once a week to help me solve a problem. since years, being a mac user, i haven't been in such a situation ever again!

Shouldn't this be the "Apple versus everyones else thread" or the "OSX versus Microsoft Thread"? Some weirdo folks do run windows on their Macs.

I'm a Logic user thus a Mac (duuuuh!), but instead of upgrading the cpu (I have a first generation Mac Pro (4 x 2.66), I'm going to get a PC slave and connect it via ethernet with VSL Ensemble Pro. No absolute need to have everything on the same CPU, and with Ensemble Pro, it's a simple digital connection without additional interfaces of soundcards. Seems like the cheapest way to have lots of power while using a Mac environment. thumbsup

My personal list of why I favor Mac:

1. Logic is my favorite DAW. Macs run Logic. PCs don't.

2. Apogee Symphony Mobile and a couple of Rosettas, need I say more?

3. I was always plagued with viruses on PC AND the virus software slowed everything down. After 5 years on OSX I've never encountered a virus or felt the need to run virus protection.

4. I love how my iPhone (iPods in the past), music collection and computers are all seamlessly integrated.

5. If I want to run Windows for some god awful reason I still can. Windows 7 is loaded up and at my behest.

6. awlwlwl... I'm drooling over my Unibody MacBook Pro... it's just so lovely in every way.

7. In general my previous life from Windows 3 to XP was miserable in most ways (drivers, software, hardware, networking, viruses.) Since the day I switched to Mac in early 2005 my computing life has been just so wondrous. Everything just works. What can I say?
