I think $20 is just for the LE-version and the full version is 199. But there was a attractive upgrade-price announced on there site to the full version.

Bought it

Great sound very authentic and unlike the original hardware the software can be polyphonic

Had this since its official release....anyone who wants VCS3 and a lot lot more this is brainless cash. Its for me the best emu of this revered old Putney...despite the LE which is by itself extensive in its feature set, Xils-Lab are also giving a very generous upgrade path to the full machine which has also been dropped from the original price.....the behaviour and life that Xavier Oudin has created with XILS 3 is quite extraordinary. When you wind the XILS 3 up....it breathes, screams, squelches and drfts all over the place if you want it to.It can do some of the weirdest, wildest sounds that the VCS3 is renowned for and all with that distinctive character, its also full of blippy blurpy goodness and XILS 3 nails it there too imho.Want those famous Pink Floyd "on the run" and all those other atmospheres and similar fall out of it as well as no end of other cool sonic oddities....Its an experimenters delight and throws up no end of surprises.

I hope maybe a lot more people adopt the delights of this crazy synth full of unique idiosyncrasies and join the club.

Fo' sure man, but there's a "little" difference of 180 $ between 20 and 199 bucks I think it's good for what it does, maybe in the future I will buy the complete thing. Anyway, I got so much synths now!

Upgrade to full version is just $99 though, so that's a total of $119.

I really like this, and who can argue with the price? I can't say that for the Trackbox, but that's another story (beware of the filters). So, all seems cool except the 3le AU and VST are crashy in Peak and Wave Editor.

I haven't tried them in actual AU or VST DAW... don't have the latter and rarely use the former. RTAS seems fine in PT, and I just got the AU going in AU Lab with some fiddling... possible pilot error there.

Anyway, all my other stuff works, so I wonder why not this?

I had a second go and TrackBox is not that bad. The frequencies are off on the filters, though. For example, the 20 Hz HPF is down 3 dB at 50 Hz. The sound is overall kind of lackluster, IMO.

There are also some GUI deficiencies like: no labels on the gain reduction meters, no modifier key to reset controls to default position, and no modifier for fine increment. The tube section is interesting... I guess it's okay for $15.

I've done all of the AM no-brainers so far: BreverbAM, Nitro, Mutator, UltraAnalog and these two... not bad in total for $75. Similarly, I got 6 plug-ins on the IK group-buy for $75, and 5 from FabFilter for a little over $100.

Oh, and I snagged PSP oldTimer for $55. On CyberMonday, I also bought the D16 Toraverb for $27 and NI Reaktor for $100. That brings me up to almost $450 for a lot of software... might have been better off with one piece of decent hardware!

Anyway, sorry about the ramble... it is what it is, I guess. I will probably go for the ZILS 3 upgrade. I have a lot of vintage synths, but no EMS... so this makes up for that, a little. It sounds pretty good for an emulation.

Did anyone else have trouble installing XILS 3LE? It tries to update the 'interlok' (Ilok?) Drivers but stops about 3/4 the way and never goes from there. I use Ilok and everythings else works but this installer had my ilok drivers messed up till I uninstalled it. Anyone know an easy way to install without the installer messing with the interlok drivers?

Would be nice to use this VI that was such a great deal (if I can use it).

Deal of the year IMHO.

I'm not a synth 'tweaker', but this is cool.

Strangley alluring...

Anyone experiencing serious CPU spikes with some of the presets? With these presets, in Ableton live it jumps up to 180% (I didnt even know it would go that high!) and brings everything to a halt (have to restart Live).

Ableton live 8.0.9
ProTools LE 8
Intel i7 960
3GB ram
Winxp SP3

Yeah, on some patch changes it will make pro tools instantly quit. I've never had any other soft synth or plug in do that before. But I love it anyway.

No Help, huh? Well since I had to figure it out on my own I will actually post my findings to maybe help someone who is in need. It appears that the newest ilok drivers (Client & Ilok) have an issue with the RME Fireface drivers and I use a Fireface 800 along with an 003r/PT8.
Below is info from ilok.com

Why does the iLok Driver Installer hang at the end of the installation process?
This is a known issue that occurs when the iLok driver installer is run on a system that contains a particular RME Fireface driver. We have contacted RME to identify a permanent solution for their driver's behavior with our installer. You may also contact RME regarding this behavior.
To resolve this issue, please complete the following steps:
Temporarily rename the "fireface_mme.dll" file found in the "\Windows\system32\" directory to "fireface_mme-temp.dll".
Run the iLok driver installer again. There should be no hang when running the installer this time.
When the installation successfully completes, rename the "fireface_mme-temp.dll" file back to "fireface_mme.dll".

This worked and the latest driver installed fine while that certain .dll file was renamed. I also installed the XILS 3LE without any hangs BUT when I start PT8 (With XILS 3LE installed) It mentions it can't find MSVCR80D.DLL (which is a Microsoft Visual C++ so I download it and install it and it still can't find it.

UPDATE: I contacted Xils Labs and Xavier said they were working on it but linked me with a 1.04 version which actually works for me. Cool Synth, sounds very classic & analogue.

Frankly, I don't know what the fuss is all about. My nord G2X doesn't sound like the sputnik but it still sounds better than the Xils.

I'll pass on this deal for sure.

Good for you.

And yeah, but I do believe your Nord, was, what, 100X the price?

This is great piece of software. Especially at the price.

I think it's an average VI like a number of others. It's good for the price but despite it's flexible routing, I prefer the Waldorf Largo instead, which is not x100 more expensive to make the comparison fair.

If the Xils works for you, all the better. It didn't for me, though. The other modular system which I think equals if not exceeds the nord is the soniccore modular but it carries a different price tag than the Xils.

I don't share this sentiment.

I find it inspiring and elegant. It makes me write new stuff. That's the gauge of a great instrument, to me. I'm going to be using this as long as I write songs.

cheers,
c
